Carpenter / Site Installer /Shop fitter – Architectural MetalworkFull-Time | Corio, Geelong VICWorkshop + Site Installation RolePay Negotiable – Based on Experience & Skill LevelAbout Metal Art & DesignMetal Art & Design is a Geelong-based architectural metalwork company specialising in custom fabrication and installation for commercial and residential projects throughout Geelong, the Surf Coast and Melbourne.Our work includes architectural handrails and balustrades, staircases, window shrouds, screens, façades, feature metalwork, doors, frames and a wide range of custom architectural products.We are looking for an experienced Carpenter / Builder / Site Installer / Shopfitter who has strong set-out skills, a high level of attention to detail and takes pride in achieving a clean, seamless finished installation.This role would suit someone from a carpentry, building or shopfitting background who enjoys varied work, problem-solving and working with high-end architectural finishes.The RoleThis is a hands‐on role combining workshop fabrication and preparation with site installations.You will play an important part in ensuring our products not only leave the workshop correctly fabricated, but are also installed accurately, neatly and to the standard expected on high‐end architectural projects.You will work from our Corio workshop and travel to sites throughout Geelong, the Surf Coast and Melbourne.Your responsibilities will include:Installing architectural metalwork including:HandrailsBalustradesWindow shroudsScreensArchitectural framesFeature metalworkCustom fabricated productsAccurate site set‐out and installationCompleting site measures and verifying dimensions before fabricationChecking site conditions, substrates, levels and fixing requirementsIdentifying potential installation issues before fabrication beginsReading and interpreting shop drawings, architectural drawings and plansSetting out fixing points, levels, heights and finished positionsDrilling, fixing, levelling, packing and aligning finished productsAchieving clean and seamless transitions between our metalwork and surrounding building finishesWorking carefully around finished walls, flooring, glazing, joinery and other completed surfacesCutting timber,



steel and other materials accurately to sizeAssisting with workshop fabrication and preparationPreparing components and materials for fabrication and installationTest fitting and checking assemblies before they leave the workshopAssisting fabricators with assembly where requiredCoordinating with builders, supervisors and other trades on siteProblem‐solving when site conditions differ from drawingsCompleting final quality checks before handoverCleaning installed products and leaving work areas clean and presentableWhat We're Looking ForEssential:Qualified Carpenter, Builder or highly experienced tradesperson with relevant site installation experienceCurrent driver's licence (Manual)Current White CardStrong site measuring and set‐out skillsAbility to accurately read and follow shop drawings and architectural plansStrong understanding of levels, dimensions, tolerances and finished building linesAbility to work independently and solve problems on siteConfidence using hand tools and power toolsAbility to drill and fix into a range of substrates including steel, concrete, timber and masonryStrong attention to detailReliable and organisedGood communication skillsAbility to work effectively with builders, supervisors and other tradesA solid focus on quality and workmanshipAbility to look ahead and identify potential issues before they become problemsThe Standard We're Looking ForOur products are often installed during the final stages of construction, where every fixing, gap, alignment and finish is visible.We need someone who understands that a quality installation is more than simply fixing something to a wall.You need to be thinking about:Is it level?
Is it straight?
Are the gaps consistent?
Are the fixings positioned neatly?
Are the packers concealed?
Do the fixings match the finished product?
Does it line up correctly with the surrounding finishes?
Has the product been protected from scratches and damage?
Has the area been cleaned after installation?
Would you be happy handing this directly over to the architect, builder or client?




We want someone who takes ownership of the final result and understands that the installation is the last opportunity to make the entire project look exceptional.Workshop InvolvementThis isn't purely a site role.When not completing installations, you will work alongside our fabrication team in our Corio workshop.Depending on your experience, this may include:Cutting steel and timber to sizeMeasuring and marking componentsDrilling and preparing fixing pointsPreparing components for fabricationAssembling and test fitting productsPreparing installation hardware and fixingsChecking dimensions against shop drawingsBuilding jigs and templatesPreparing timber componentsAssisting with packaging and protecting finished productsHelping ensure everything required for an installation is prepared before leaving the workshopYou don't need to be a qualified Boilermaker, but experience working with steel or metal fabrication would be highly regarded.Highly Regarded:Commercial carpentry experienceShopfitting experienceArchitectural installation experienceExperience installing balustrades and handrailsExperience installing façades, screens or window shroudsExperience working with stainless steel, aluminium, brass or finished metalworkExperience working from detailed shop drawingsExperience with laser levels and accurate site set‐outExperience taking site measurements for fabricationExperience installing into finished architectural environmentsWelding or metal fabrication experienceExperience working with timber and architectural finishesEWP licenceForklift licenceWorking at HeightsOther relevant construction tickets and licencesWhat We OfferFull‐time employmentPay negotiable depending on experience, capability and skill levelVaried work between the workshop and siteInteresting architectural and custom projectsWork across Geelong, Surf Coast and MelbourneOpportunity to develop both installation and fabrication skillsModern workshop and fabrication equipmentOpportunity to work with steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass, timber and other architectural materialsLarge‐scale commercial and high‐end architectural projectsA team focused on continually improving workmanship and qualityWe are looking for someone who wants more variety than a traditional carpentry role and enjoys working through challenging installations where precision and problem‐solving matter.Metal Art & DesignCorio, Geelong VICwww.metal-art.com.au
