Resuscitation bays Isolation rooms Fast-track areas Contemporary emergency care facilities Infrastructure planning for a Short Stay Unit scheduled for **** The Role The Emergency Medicine Senior Medical Officer will work collaboratively with the Emergency Department multidisciplinary team to provide clinical leadership, supervision and high-quality patient care .
The role will contribute to: Medical workforce development Clinical governance Quality and safety initiatives Education and supervision Service development Continuous improvement Shared clinical leadership within the Emergency Department The position is supported by an experienced medical and nursing workforce and works closely with executive leadership, hospital services and regional healthcare partners.
Emergency Department Team The ED is supported by: FACEMs FACRRM-qualified doctors FRACGPs with advanced Emergency Medicine expertise Junior Medical Officers Nurse Practitioners Regional support is provided by Bendigo Health , with tertiary referral services available through Melbourne.
Onsite Clinical Services The Emergency Department is supported by a range of onsite services, including: Acute Medicine Anaesthetics Obstetrics Gynaecology General Surgery Geriatrics and Rehabilitation Residential Aged Care onsite and offsite Swan Hill District Health also provides GP services from purpose-built facilities, creating an integrated rural healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities The successful applicant will: Act as the Medical Officer in Charge during clinical ED shifts Provide clinical leadership and direction to medical staff working within the ED Provide direct assessment and management of Emergency Department patients Undertake history, examination, investigation, diagnosis and treatment Prescribe and administer appropriate interventions Support safe clinical handover and comprehensive documentation Provide supervision, education and support to other medical staff Exercise appropriate clinical judgement regarding admission, transfer and discharge Liaise with patients, families,



carers and community services Work collaboratively with admitting and visiting medical officers Participate equitably in the medical on-call roster Respond to Code Blue and Medical Emergency Team calls Provide emergency resuscitation as a key member of the response team Contribute to NSQHS and Aged Care Quality Standards Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement and service development About You Applicants will demonstrate: Current AHPRA registration Fellowship as a Specialist in Emergency Medicine (FACEM) , or FRACGP or FACRRM with appropriate advanced Emergency Medicine qualifications Recent clinical experience and high-level Emergency Medicine expertise in Australia or an equivalent setting Strong clinical leadership and decision-making skills Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Commitment to clinical governance, patient safety and continuous quality improvement Commitment to teaching, supervision and professional development Willingness to participate in an equitable roster including evenings, weekends and on-call Why Swan Hill?
