The NSW Central Coast is positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, with a population that is expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 before 2030. Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) provides over 700 beds across its network facilities comprising Gosford Hospital, Wyong Hospital, Long Jetty Continuing Care Unit, Woy Woy Hospital and various Community Health Centres and Services. CCLHD has strong connections with Royal North Shore Hospital and is affiliated with the University of Newcastle.
Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and a trauma centre for the Central Coast, with approximately 500 inpatient beds and 24-hour access to its Emergency Department and Operating Theatres. Inpatient services include Coronary and Intensive Care, General Medicine, Neurology, Renal, Geriatrics, General Surgery, Obstetrics, Mental Health, Paediatric and Emergency services. Outpatient and community services include Allied Health, Dental, Podiatry, Nursing, Child and Adolescent and Family Health, Drug and Alcohol, and Cardiac Rehabilitation.
Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern part of the NSW Central Coast. Wyong Hospital has approx 300 inpatient beds and provides a range of medical, surgical and critical care services. Specialty services include Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Drug and Alcohol, Gastroenterology, Stroke, Mental Health, Rehabilitation, Orthopaedics, Vascular, Urology and Cancer services. Wyong Hospital is further developing its role as a district general hospital for a growing population with a $200 million expansion close to completion that will deliver a new Emergency Department, ICU, Paediatric unit, Theatres and inpatient units allowing the further development of clinical services.

What you'll be doing
- The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care to patients in a complex clinical environment.
- Medical Officers will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition and will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
- You may be required to work at the different facilities and locations with the NSW public health system as part of Central Coast Local Health District which includes Gosford & Wyong Hospitals.
- Gain experience at a Trainee level in the management of patients Urology.
- Participate in the Urology on-call roster. Although the primary role is Urology, rotation through Wyong Hospital will include responsibilities to the general surgical service including participating in the general surgical on call roster.
- Manage elective and acute patients in the wards, emergency department and operating theatres.
- Ideal candidate should have demonstrated commitment toward achieving pre-requisite requirements for completing surgical specialty training in Urology.
Key Duties
- To contribute to the total health care needs & expectations of clients, clinicians & staff, and the community we serve by providing & maintaining a high level of standard in the Urology Department.
- Comply and adhere to statutory requirements and the facility/site/hospital and Urology Department's policies, practices and procedures.
- Punctual daily ward rounds of inpatients and consults with consultant or as “Team Leader”.
- Maintenance of adequate clinical records, including documentation of ward rounds and relevant changes in patient condition.
- Communication with consultants on a daily basis and any changes in patient condition.
- Receive & manage consultations from ED and other specialties in a timely manner.
- Examine all new admissions
- Ensure ongoing support & information to the patient and family (where appropriate)
- Appropriate hand-over of patients to ensure continuity of care.
- Facilitate appropriate and timely discharge of patients with appropriate follow-up.
- Chase results of all relevant investigations.
- Ensure effective communication between specialty teams, allied health, nursing staff and patients and their families.
- An ability to develop surgical skills whilst knowing and working within limitations.
- To develop independent operating skills appropriate to level of experience.
- Provide teaching, support and assistance to junior medical staff and students.
- Involvement in regular teaching and Grand Rounds and Morbidity and Mortality meetings.
- C ompliance with all applicable public health organization and hospital policies and protocols, and with applicable Policy Directives and Guidelines issued by the Department of Health, including the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
- Ensuring that all services provided to patients are consistent with any instructions issued by your supervisor or Department Director or any conditions imposed by the Medical Board of Australia.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Completion of at least three postgraduate years working as a medical officer with demonstrated competence and eligible to be accepted into a recognised training program.
- Demonstrated commitment to relevant training program and related medical experience in relevant surgical specialties'.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical setting utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated time management, problem solving skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute. Along with evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self education.
- Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute.
