Assistant Director - Procurement and Contract Management - Federal Government
Location: Canberra, ACT
Contract: 12 months, with possible extension options available for the right candidate, pending budget decisions as always
Pay: $130 - $160 p/h including super (negotiable)
Work type: Full time
Work arrangement: Hybrid, with specific arrangements agreed with your supervisor on a case-by-case basis
Clearance: Must hold a current Baseline clearance or above
About the Role
This is a senior procurement leadership role with our Federal Government client. You will lead a busy team delivering procurement and contract management work from tender through to supplier performance.
You will provide strategic advice, manage complex procurement activity, strengthen governance and reporting, and help stakeholders make sound commercial decisions. The environment is high volume, so you need to balance
competing priorities without losing quality, accuracy or compliance.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide strategic advice on procurement of goods and services
- Manage tender processes and establish contracts with clear performance expectations
- Monitor supplier performance, service standards, timeframes and value for money
- Conduct due diligence on competitive bids, vendors, costs and services
- Manage contract lifecycle risks, costs and service performance
- Develop procurement and contract management policies, procedures and frameworks
- Strengthen procurement reporting, verification, assurance and transparency
- Prepare complex reports,
correspondence and briefings for senior leaders
- Lead projects, allocate resources and monitor progress
- Lead, coach and develop a busy procurement and contract management team
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to achieve delivery outcomes
- Drive business improvement and changes in workplace practices
What You Bring (Essential Criteria)
- You've led end-to-end procurement and contract management in a complex environment
- You've managed tender processes, contract establishment and supplier performance
- You understand the PGPA Act, Commonwealth Procurement Rules and Commonwealth procurement frameworks
- You can provide strategic procurement advice using evidence, risk analysis and professional judgement
- You've developed or improved procurement policies, controls, reporting or assurance processes
- You can prepare clear, complex advice and briefings for senior stakeholders
- You've led teams through competing priorities and a high volume of work
- You're an Australian citizen
- You must hold a current Baseline clearance or above
Nice to Have (Desirable Criteria)
- Knowledge of Whole of Australian Government contracting arrangements
- Experience in a high-volume Commonwealth procurement environment
- Experience with financial information systems maintenance or enhancement requirements
- Experience improving procurement, reporting or business processes
