What you'll be doing
Haematology Trainees manage patients with a range of haematological conditions, including haemopoietic stem cell transplant patients at some centres, under the supervision of Specialist Haematologists. They will also investigate clinical haematology consultations and attend patients and donors in ambulatory care and outpatient settings. The purpose of the position is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the public health organisation.
Where you'll be working
- Nepean Hospital is a 600-bed tertiary referral hospital located at Kingswood NSW.
- The Haematology Unit has a large outpatient and Inpatient commitment.
- The haematology lab and blood bank performs on-site routine general haematology investigations including bone marrow morphology and flow cytometry.
Essential requirements
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completed at least four postgraduate years and have completed or intend to complete the examination requirements of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians may be considered.
- International Medical graduates must provide documentation of Australian Medical Council assessment and a report from the relevant College (RCPA or RACP) outlining their training and exam requirements.
- Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position.
- This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent's registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
- Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
- To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
Selection criteria * MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Demonstrated interest in Haematology with at least 4 years of post-graduate experience. Applicants who have been unsuccessful in the RACP examinations may be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment and expertise.
- Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated involvement in patient safety and clinical quality improvement activities.
