About us

Queensland Law Society (QLS) is the professional body for legal practitioners, representing more than 14,000 members state-wide. We lead the Solicitors of Queensland with our purpose of Good Law - Good Lawyers - Public Good.

We're seeking a Senior Inhouse Solicitor (Licensing) to join our Licensing team on a 12-month parental leave contract.

This role is ideal for an experienced solicitor who enjoys solving complex legal problems but is looking for something different from private practice.

You'll work on diverse licensing and regulatory matters, engage directly with practitioners and stakeholders, and help uphold the integrity of the legal profession. The work is challenging, meaningful and varied, but without the pressure of billable hours.

If you're looking for a role where you can continue to practise law, work alongside a genuinely supportive team and regain balance in your life, we'd love to hear from you.

Why This Role?

- Leave billable targets behind and focus on quality outcomes
- Enjoy genuine work-life balance and flexible working arrangements
- Work on diverse and interesting matters where no two days are the same
- Join a highly experienced, collaborative and supportive team
- Continue using your legal expertise in a meaningful in-house environment

In This Role You Will

- Investigate and assess matters affecting a practitioner's suitability to practise
- Provide legal advice on complex and sensitive regulatory matters
- Prepare submissions, reports and briefing materials to support decision making

- Manage a diverse caseload of licensing and regulatory matters
- Build productive relationships with regulators and stakeholders
- Contribute to regulatory policy and continuous improvement initiatives

What You'll Bring

- Bachelor of Laws and approximately 6+ years' post-admission experience
- Experience gained in private practice or a comparable legal environment
- Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written communication and legal drafting ability
- Ability to manage competing priorities and complex matters
- Current Queensland practising certificate, or eligibility to obtain one

Experience in litigation, commercial, insolvency, tax, administrative law or regulatory environments will be highly regarded.

Why Join QLS?

At QLS, you'll help protect the public and support the legal profession while working in a culture that values its people.

We offer:

- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
- A cooperative and supportive team environment
- A strong commitment to diversity and inclusion
- 12 weeks' parental leave for all parents
- Opportunities to contribute to meaningful work that impacts the profession and community

Please note: applicants must have unrestricted Australian working rights. This role may require a criminal history check (a criminal history doesn't automatically disqualify a candidate). We may close this ad early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications. For the position description, email ******@qls.com.au.
