About Us

Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

Our people enable the Courts Group to deliver on each jurisdiction's own strategic priorities while also pursuing strategic opportunities that are interconnected and deliver benefits more broadly.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The MCV determines in excess of 200,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, dealing with over 90 percent of all adult cases that come before Victorian courts each year.

MCV aims to be an cutting-edge, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

About the Role

- Bringing cultural knowledge, lived experience and community wisdom into the court room:
- Provide cultural guidance supporting relevant legislation, help the court understand the broader context of a person's life, including intergenerational trauma, disconnection from culture, and other underlying factors.
- Uphold and speak to cultural, community and kinship values.
- Maintain strong professional and cultural boundaries,



including not providing legal advice, and modelling integrity.
- Work collaboratively with court staff.
- Build and maintain knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal specific support services relevant to court users coming through the program.

- Participate in local Court Reference Groups and relevant working groups or committees, contributing cultural insight and community voice.
- Identify and disclose conflicts of interest in line with CSV policies and legislative obligations.
- Participate in required pre-appointment training, professional development and refresher activities.
- Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the organisation's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the organisation's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- Undertake other tasks as reasonably requested in line with the role.

About You

You will bring:

- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, culture, and contemporary justice-related issues.




- Skilled in engaging effectively and respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and stakeholders, promoting culturally safe practices.

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
