Install, maintain, test, and repair of backup power systems (UPS) for a range of customers including data centres, hospitals, and industrial facilities.
Key responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance: Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and diagnostic testing on single-phase and three-phase UPS units and batteries.
- Troubleshoot systems: Find and fix UPS electrical faults, component failures, and alarm issues.
- Installation & Testing: Set up, connect, and test single-phase and three-phase UPS units, battery strings (VRLA or lithium-ion), and maintenance bypass switches.
- Replace batteries: Install and test lead-acid or lithium-ion battery strings, and removal and safe disposal of old batteries.
- Complete service reports: Document all test results, repairs made, and parts used for every site visit.
- Provide emergency support:
Respond to urgent client callouts during power failures or equipment breakdowns.
About you
- Education: A degree or certificate in electronics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Solid background in electrical and low-voltage power systems with the ability to read wiring schematics and single-line diagrams and to safely use multi meters, clamp meters, and load banks.
- Experience: Two to five years of hands-on experience, specifically working with power distribution or UPS equipment.
- Electrical Trade Licence & OSHA safety certifications are often required.
- A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to customer sites handle on-call emergency rotations and occasionally work irregular hours.
