We’re seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Laboratory Scientist to join our dedicated Histology team in Cairns. In this hands-on role, you will support essential laboratory operations to ensure timely and accurate results.

Your key duties will include:

- Receipting and accession of specimens

- Dissection, embedding, microtomy and general procedures required in the processing of a variety of tissue specimens

- Preparing specimens for transport to the central Laboratory

- Routine equipment maintenance and housekeeping tasks

- Maintaining quality standards and adherence to laboratory protocols

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate will have an enthusiastic attitude, a strong attention to detail, and proven ability to perform effectively in a busy laboratory environment.

You will also have:

- Excellent communication and customer service skills

- A high level of commitment to accuracy, laboratory turnaround times and the ability to work effectively in a multi-tasking environment

- Ability to work effectively as part of a team along with strong organisational skills

- Flexibility to work rostered shifts between 5:00am and 09:30pm, Monday to Friday, and articipation in the rotational on call roster Friday, Saturday and Sunday required

- A current driver’s licence

- Willingness to assist across departments when needed

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

- A degree in Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science), Diploma of Laboratory Technology, or another relevant qualification (essential)

While not required, the following experience will be highly regarded:

- Previous exposure to histology processes such as accessioning, microtomy,



embedding, staining and dissection.

- Familiarity with the Apollo Laboratory Information System (LIS)
