About the OpportunityThe Piping and Mechanical Outfit Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supervising piping and mechanical outfitting activities during vessel construction. The role ensures that pre-outfitting, block outfitting, onboard installation, and system completion are executed in accordance with approved drawings, class rules, P&M; standards, and project schedules, supporting on time delivery of new vessels

What’s Involved
Planning & Coordination:
- Coordinate piping and mechanical outfitting activities during unit fabrication, block fabrication, block join, and onboard installation stages.
- Review approved shipyard drawings, piping isometrics, system schematics, 3D model and BOMs prior to work execution
- Plan and optimize pre-outfitting and block outfitting sequences to maximize work completion before block erection in collaboration with ship construction management
- Coordinate with fabrication,
electrical and fit out departments to minimize rework and clashes
- Ensure timely availability of piping spools, valves, supports, and mechanical equipment in line with the build schedule
- Resource management of a team of supervisors including disciplinary, time and attendance issues.
Installation & Supervision
- Coordinate supervision resources for the installation of shipboard piping systems including but not limited to ballast, bilge, firefighting, cooling water, fuel oil, lube oil, hydraulic, and service systems
- Coordinate installation, alignment, and fastening of mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, fans, machinery skids and drive lines.
- Monitor shipyard and subcontractor manpower for productivity, workmanship, and adherence to approved methods
- Work with ship construction management to review constructability and access issues during block and onboard outfitting
Quality Control & Class Compliance
- Ensure all outfitting works comply with class society rules (DNV, ABS, LR, BV, etc.), flag-state requirements, and approved drawings
- Support inspections with class surveyors, owners’ representatives, and shipyard QA/QC
- Coordinate pressure testing, flushing, blowing, and preservation of piping systems
- Ensure proper tagging, system identification, and completion of as-built and OQE documentation
- Close punch lists and support system readiness for commissioning
Safety & Shipyard Compliance
- Enforce shipyard HSE policies during block fabrication, lifting, and onboard outfitting activities
- Conduct toolbox talks and risk assessments (JSA) for piping and mechanical works- Ensure compliance with permit-to-work systems, especially for hot work and confined spaces
Progress Control & Reporting
- Track progress of piping and mechanical outfitting against newbuilding milestones
- Report daily and weekly status including manpower, material readiness, and constraints
- Coordinate with planning and engineering teams to mitigate schedule risks and improve workflow
You’ll Need
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering or appropriate Trade certificate
- Minimum 5 years of experience in shipbuilding newbuilding projects
- Familiarity with shipyard workflows and newbuild commissioning processes
- Strong ability to read and interpret shipyard drawings, P&IDs;, and piping isometrics
- Eligibility for a Defence Security Clearance
