Microsoft 365 & Exchange Platform Engineer

An urgent Melbourne engagement for a hands-on cloud platform specialist who lives in the Microsoft 365 tenant and the Exchange Online mail flow.

Kestrel Eight is seeking an experienced Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online Platform Engineer to own the architecture, engineering, operation and automation of a large-scale enterprise Microsoft 365 tenant and its Exchange Online messaging infrastructure. Hybrid working arrangement, with contract or permanent options available for the right candidate.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on platform specialist role, not an administration seat. You will own a large enterprise Microsoft 365 tenant end to end - the global configuration, the messaging pipeline behind it, the licence and cost position, and the automation that keeps all three from being manual work. Interviews are being held immediately.

What You’ll Own

- M365 tenant administration: Global Microsoft 365 tenant settings, directory synchronisation and core service configuration.
- Exchange Online engineering: Architecting, configuring and maintaining enterprise-grade Exchange Online messaging infrastructure, including hybrid mail routing.
- Tenant lifecycle and licensing: Overseeing tenant lifecycle activities, optimising licence allocation and controlling operational costs.
- Capability rollout and adoption: Deploying recent Microsoft cloud features, evaluating service updates and enhancing platform capability.
- Automation and performance: Building PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API automation to streamline administration and lift platform performance.

What You Bring

- 5 to 7+ years’ hands-on engineering experience administering large-scale enterprise Microsoft 365 tenants and Exchange Online.




- Advanced PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API scripting for automation and tenant management.
- Deep technical mastery of M365 tenant architecture, Exchange Online messaging pipelines, hybrid mail routing and object synchronisation.
- Expert-level proficiency across the M365 Admin Centre, Exchange Admin Centre, PowerShell, Graph API and Entra Connect / Cloud Sync.
- Proven ability to design redundant mail routes, establish disaster recovery procedures and mitigate platform service disruptions.
- Experience governing tenant-wide configuration, service quotas and licence pooling.
- A track record delivering stable SaaS infrastructure against SLAs and resolving complex technical escalations.
- Comfort analysing M365 usage telemetry to drive cost optimisation and resource allocation decisions.
- Strong stakeholder management, aligning feature rollouts with business productivity needs and IT service desk workflows.
- Working understanding of tenant security settings, message tracing and audit log analysis in support of security incident investigations.

Well Regarded

- A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert or Messaging Administrator Associate.
