Your Role
As a Weapon Technician in the Army, you’ll be responsible for inspecting, repairing and reconditioning the Army’s ever-growing range of military hardware, from advanced weapons to armoured vehicles to watercraft and diving gear. You’ll use welding and machining skills to repair, modify or recondition weapons and weapons systems.

Common Duties
- Diagnose, maintain and repair the Army's fleet of weapons that includes pistols, rifles, shotguns, machine guns and grenade launchers
- Diagnose, maintain and repair complex weapon systems, workshop equipment, miscellaneous equipment and perform general engineering tasks
- Work with specialist teams on advanced armoured vehicle armament systems and artillery platforms
- Perform safety and technical inspections on weapon systems and specialist equipment
- General soldiering duties, such as manning defensive positions, patrolling, traffic control, camouflaging of vehicles and field equipment, and navigation.
Following your employment training, you’ll earn a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (MEM30219). The training you’ll undertake is fully accredited and transferrable to similar civilian roles. You’ll also have the prospect to grow your technical knowledge through specialist courses.

Competitive Salary + 16.4% Generous Superannuation
Starting salary while training: $60,517 per year
Salary after completing training: $95,741 per year
Your salary will continue to increase based on your rank and years of service.
Location
Once you have completed your training, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia. Most of these positions are in North QLD, South QLD, SA and NT.
Eligibility
For this role, you must:
- Be at least 17 at the time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen, and have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English, Maths and Science (with a Physics content) and one other subject
