The Transport Manager oversees all aspects of daily transport operations, including delivery and installation of products at customers’ premises in a
timely and professional manner. Operating with a continual focus on the four key pillars—Safety, Service, Cost, and Team—the Transport Manager is responsible for strategic transport planning, team leadership, daily delivery and install operations, risk management, and strict compliance with WH&S; policies, Chain of Responsibility, and safety regulations. The Transport Manager aligns all activities with company values, striving for operational excellence, cost optimisation, and high customer satisfaction.
As a Transport Manager you'll:
- Oversee end-to-end transport, delivery, and installation operations, ensuring optimal fleet allocation, run completion, and compliance with company SOPs.
- Enforce strictly WH&S; policies, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), Fatigue Management legislation, and Safe Working Practices (SWPs); ensure prompt reporting of all incidents, injuries, near misses, and hazards within 24 hours.
- Lead, mentor, and build an engaged transport team (supervisors, coordinators, allocators, admins, drivers); oversee training, licensing, inductions, performance management, and recruitment.
- Oversee allocation and routing teams in utilising AI routing tools,
managing fleet capacities, linehaul dispatches, and next-day/regional delivery plans.
- Drive initiatives to enhance Net Promoter Score (NPS), minimize customer stock/property damage, resolve escalations, and maintain high service standards.
- Manage operational budgets, control daily overtime, reduce operating costs, approve contractor/driver invoices, and track fleet efficiencies.
- Supervise regular fleet and vehicle audits, maintenance schedules, tool care, consumable inventories, and ensure high standards of DC/vehicle housekeeping.
- Oversee scanning and loading accuracy, SRO return processes, administrative reporting, and ensure effective communication across internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactively challenge existing processes, support technology integrations, manage change, and assist with special projects such as DC relocations.
You'll have:
- 5+ years transport and logistics experience
- 5+ years experience in a leadership role
- Experience managing Chain of Responsibility compliance
- Class C License (MR License Preferred)
- Strong safety focused including safe manual handling knowledge and experience
- Excellent people leadership skills, with a proven track record of improving safety, productivity, costs and culture.
- Experience managing budgets and reducing business costs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Extensive problem solving ability
- Results and targets driven with a proactive, can do approach.
- High/Intermediate level computer literacy including Google Suite, Microsoft Office and the use of large ERP/WMS/TMS systems
- Tertiary qualifications in Transport | Logistics | Supply Chain preferred but not essential
- Experience working with appliances, furniture, or large bulky items preferred but not essential
- High attention to detail
- Positive multitasking skills and experience
- Excellent team player
