Pallara

Male Support Worker | Community Participation | Men’s Shed | Woodworking & Handy Work

Tender Loving Care Disability Services (TLC) is seeking a reliable and personable Male Support Worker to support a client with an intellectual disability and mental health support needs in the Pallara area.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys getting out in the community, practical projects, woodworking, fixing things, or general handyman activities and would like to share those interests with the person they support.

A background or experience in woodworking, mechanics, construction, maintenance or handyman work is not essential. However, having a genuine interest in practical, hands-on activities would be highly desirable and may help build a strong connection with the participant.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The primary focus of this role is community participation, building independence and supporting the participant to work towards his personal goals and interests.

A major goal is supporting him to access the local Men’s Shed and spend time working on his van.

He is currently working on his van with the long-term goal of building it up so that he can eventually travel around Australia.

The successful Support Worker will support him to:

- Attend and participate in the Men’s Shed.

- Work safely on his van and practical projects.

- Develop confidence and independence in the community.

- Access local activities and places of interest.

- Work towards his personal goals and longer-term aspirations.

- Build social connections and participate in meaningful activities.

- Develop practical skills and maintain existing interests.

- Make choices about how he spends his time and what activities he would like to pursue.

This is not a personal care-focused role. The position is primarily about community access, companionship, skill development, practical activities and supporting the participant to pursue his own interests and goals.

We are looking for someone who can commit to a consistent ongoing roster of at least three shifts per week:

Monday
Wednesday
Friday

Consistency is important to the participant and the support team, so we are looking for someone who can reliably commit to these regular shifts.

There may also be an opportunity to pick up additional shifts within TLC's SIL services if the working relationship is successful and the worker is interested in additional hours.

- Able to communicate clearly and respectfully.

- Comfortable working independently in the community.

- Able to recognise changes in presentation, mood or behaviour and communicate these appropriately to the support team.

- Comfortable completing clear, accurate and objective progress notes.
