About the role
We are seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel to join our team on a 14-month fixed-term contract basis. A rare generalist in-house role based in Adelaide in a collaborative team working across an impressive leadership team.
The Senior Corporate Counsel is a key legal advisor within the Elders group of companies, responsible for delivering strategic and commercial legal advice across the group's operations, transactions and regulatory obligations. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping business outcomes, supporting complex transactions, strategic initiatives and governance activities while ensuring legal risks are managed effectively. Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you will provide practical, commercially focused guidance that enables growth, supports compliance and contributes to the ongoing success of the business.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice to stakeholders across the business and support informed decision-making through clear risk-based guidance.
- Identify, assess and help mitigate legal risks arising from operational activities, projects and strategic initiatives.
- Manage disputes, litigation, complaints and regulatory matters, including engagement and oversight of external legal counsel.
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements and legal documentation to support business objectives.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and provide proactive advice on legal and compliance obligations.
- Build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders, delivering practical legal solutions aligned to commercial outcomes.
- Develop and deliver legal education, guidance materials and training to enhance legal awareness and governance across the business.
- Mentor, guide and assist in the development of junior staff including through appropriate delegation and supervision of matters.
About you
- Hold an unrestricted Australian Practising Certificate and relevant tertiary qualifications in Law.
- Bring 7+ years' post-admission experience, ideally gained within a commercial law firm and/or corporate in-house environment.
- Demonstrate strong commercial acumen and the ability to provide practical, risk-based legal advice.
- Have proven experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of legal documentation.
- Thrive in a quick-paced and collaborative environment, effectively managing competing priorities and multiple projects.
- Possess excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, with a strong customer-focused approach.
- A collaborative leader and problem solver who can work autonomously and contribute positively to business outcomes; experience in agribusiness or knowledge of Elders' operations is highly desirable.
