?Seeking a Wing-Person Support Worker for a Dark 90s Legend?
Are you an easy-going, respectful human who knows the difference between being a hovering supervisor and a ride-or-die wing-person? Good, because this isn’t your average support gig.
I am looking for coresidents to join forces with me, a mature woman in my 50s who proudly identifies as a dark child of the 90s. I walk through life in my Doc Martens and thrive on music from The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Butthole Surfers and The Cure. I polished my dry wit and sharp humour in my years behind a bar and have the kind of dark sense of humour that makes you laugh when you probably shouldn’t.
The role is perfect for someone who isn’t afraid of robust personalities, loves alternative culture, and knows how to support without suffocating.
What the role looks like:
· Co-Resident shifts are 24 hours in my home. - support workers share my space while supporting me with day-to-day living.
· Support with complex personal care as required.
· Working alongside me in the kitchen, sometimes for simple meals, sometimes for more adventurous cooking.
About Me:
? A keen op-shop adventurer and antique collector (and repurposing them into projects).
?A proud animal lover (cats, dogs, budgies) – animals are always part of the vibe here.
?A lover of novels and late-night conversations, ideally paired with a glass of port and a cigarette outside.
?Loves cooking, not kids (sorry small humans, nothing personal).
?Witty with a dark sense of humour.
?Living with an acquired brain injury – which means support is about respecting my independence, guiding me when needed, and doing with not for.
Who you are:
- Someone easy-going, who knows when to step back – strictly no bossy energy and not a ‘clipboard type’.
- Down-to-earth, steady presence who understands boundaries.
- Comfortable with silence.
- A companion who’s up for joining in with activities rather than micro-managing them.
- Able to appreciate a good op shop find, nod along to a grungey guitar riff and maybe even rock a pair of Docs yourself.
- Respect is key – I want a genuine presence, not a shadow.
- Support at home and out and about, while keeping things laid-back, fun and real.
- Comfortable in the kitchen and enjoy cooking with someone.
- You enjoy the company of animals.
- You can keep up with quick wit, dry humour, handle sarcasm and the occasional deep (or silly) chat.
Essential Qualities and Experience.
- A valid Driver’s License
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain one.
- Current First Aid, or willingness to obtain one.
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and listening skills
The successful candidate/s will also be required to have completed or complete the following training;
- Infection Prevention & Control
- Manual Handling Awareness
- Supporting Safe and Enjoyable Meals
- Medication Management
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Positive Behaviour Support
- Acquired Brain Injury
- Stoma Care Awareness
To apply:
Send your resume along with a short note that shows me you get the vibe – for example:
- Your favourite 90s band and why
- Or, the weirdest op-shop find you’ve ever scored.
- Or, your ultimate dark-humour one-liner. If you’re open-minded and can mix respect with irreverence, support with solidarity, and guidance with good humour, then lace up your Docs and apply.
If you are seeking a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact, click Apply and attach your updated Resume/CV and a cover letter to tell us more about yourself.
Please Note: Only Shortlisted Applications will be contacted.
