St Mary's College, Gunnedah are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Leader of Learning – English to lead and inspire a team of teachers and support students in achieving their academic potential.
Position Purpose
The Leader of Learning KLA is responsible for leading a dynamic team whilst enhancing a learning culture of shared responsibility for quality teaching and student learning growth.
The role provides authoritative and instructional leadership to teachers, support staff and students. The position requirements align with and reflect the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) Middle Leader Standards. It assumes skilled capabilities consistent with 'Highly Accomplished' and/or 'Lead' Australian Professional Standards for Teachers descriptors developed by the Australian Institute of Teachers and School Leadership, although accreditation at this level is not a requirement.

Essential criteria
Comprehensive understanding of contemporary pedagogical practices and 7-12 KLA curriculum,
with a demonstrated ability to implement these practices to a high standard in contemporary classrooms
Demonstrated highly effective leadership capabilities aligned with the AITSL Middle Leader Standards, alongside strong collaboration, communication, organisation and time management skills
Demonstrated capacity to build, develop and maintain effective teams and develop cooperative and constructive working relationships that promote quality teaching and learning practices
Ability to successfully initiate, plan, implement, review and renew programs in response to new educational needs and priorities and curriculum reform processes
Demonstrated capacity to evaluate and critically reflect upon professional practice and to assist and support colleagues to develop their own skills through involvement in professional development
Success in implementing effective improvements in a school setting
Demonstrated capacity to design and present highly effective staff professional learning
Appropriate teaching qualifications and current NESA registration

A Year 7-12 Co-educational Catholic College. Gunnedah is a town of about 10,000 people in the Namoi Valley, on the North West Slopes and Plains of NSW, 75 km West of Tamworth. It is situated on the traditional lands of the Gamilaraay people. It is largely a rural service centre, with a wide variety of farming and grazing enterprises conducted. The town's population is stable and there is optimism that it will increase with the expansion or establishment of various industries in the coming years. There are five primary schools and two secondary schools in Gunnedah. The secondary schools are Gunnedah High School, with approximately 600 students, and St Mary's College, with an enrolment of 383. St Mary's College was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in **** and the Sisters of Mercy continue to have a presence in the College. However, the College has been administered by the Diocese of Armidale Catholic Schools Office since ****. There are at present three classes in each year level (7-10) in most subjects. Elective subjects in Years 9 and 10 are offered in vertical classes (mixed Years 9 and 10) to maximise the range of electives offered. A good range of choices is available in the senior years. While most students are from Gunnedah, there are significant numbers commuting from Mullaley, Tambar Springs, Curlewis, Carroll, Boggabri, Baan Baa and Narrabri.
