Exciting opportunity to join Forensic Intervention Services as a Forensic Intern Clinician, on a 14-Month Fixed Term basis.
What does Forensic Intervention Services do?
As a division of Corrections Victoria, Forensic Intervention Services is a specialist program area that provides people in custody and on community-based dispositions with offence specific services including: screening, assessment, and intervention to support their rehabilitation.
In doing so, Forensic Intervention Services is a critical component of the department's strategy to reduce reoffending and contribute to community safety.
What will the Forensic Intern Clinician do?
Under supervision, the Forensic Intern Clinician is responsible for providing a limited range of specialist clinical services state-wide, including screenings, assessments, and group-based interventions to people who have perpetrated sexual and/or violent offences, or whose offences are strongly connected with substance misuse.
Some of your duties will include:
* Learning to undertake offence specific risk assessment, including developing the skills required for clinical interview, and determine appropriate treatment pathways for those eligible for our service.
* Facilitate/co-facilitate group-based offence specific intervention programs and complete comprehensive clinical case notes in a timely fashion.
* Learning to author comprehensive risk assessments and assisting in the development of treatment completion reports and treatment plans for internal and external stakeholders.
* Engaging in extensive supervision.
* Travelling across the state to prison locations where service is required.
To be successful in the Forensic Intern Clinician role, you will have:
* Demonstrated the core skills required for the role as detailed in the Position Description and noted below.
* Demonstrated a propensity towards self-reflection and self-drive, including seeking and integrating feedback.
* Demonstrated an openness to learning and a willingness to ask questions to support your own learning and development.
What skills should the Forensic Intern Clinician have?
* A basic knowledge of, and commitment to, the use of the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) model of therapeutic intervention.
* A basic understanding of, and commitment to, the application of best practice principles of evidence-based frameworks relevant to offender rehabilitation, including the Risk Needs Responsivity model,



and Strengths Based Approaches.
* A understanding of, and commitment to, engagement in reflective practice and clinical supervision.
Qualifications
* Registration as a Provisional Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency; or
* Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW); or
* A master's degree in psychotherapy and eligibility for registration with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA); or
* A master's degree in counselling and eligibility for membership with Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA); or
* Credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses; or
* Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
* A current Victorian driver's licence is required.
