The Audit Office of South Australia exists to help government accountability and influence better performance for all South Australians.
As the independent auditor of the South Australian public sector, we report directly to Parliament on the finances, systems and processes of state and local government agencies.
As part of our Financial Audit Branch, you'll support accountability across the South Australian public sector through independent audits, reviews of internal controls, and examinations of agency operations.

About the role
As a Deputy Audit Manager, you will contribute to the smooth and effective functioning of the audit team as a senior technical contributor and operational supervisor.
Working closely with the Principal Audit Manager, you will supervise day-to-day audit activities, train and upskill team members, monitor task performance and audit progress, and mentor staff in professional communication and conduct.
The role offers a progression pathway to Audit Manager, subject to the attainment of the required skills, experience and qualifications.

About you
To be successful, you will have:
- an Australian-recognised degree in Accounting or Commerce that meets the requirements for membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) or CPA Australia
- commenced a professional accounting program for full membership with CAANZ or CPA Australia
- proven experience interpreting and applying Australian accounting and auditing standards, public sector frameworks, and legislative and regulatory reporting requirements
- demonstrated critical thinking and professional judgement to assess risk, execute audit strategies, apply accounting treatments and evaluate evidence
- proficiency in external audit, including using audit software and data analytics tools
- high-level communication skills, including the ability to prepare complex correspondence and reports.
Other requirements
You will also need to:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or hold a visa with acceptable Australian work rights at the time of applying
- be able to obtain a successful National Criminal History Check
- be willing and able to travel to and attend various client sites as required to perform audit work and meet business needs
- be available to work additional hours during peak audit reporting periods,
with compensation provided in accordance with relevant arrangements
- complete a pre-employment declaration if shortlisted.
