About the role
In this Permanent Full-Time position, you will lead a small team of Council employees and contractors to deliver medium-sized civil construction and maintenance projects across Logan's road, drainage and transport network.
You will be responsible for supervising field-based operations, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Leading, supervising and coordinating teams of up to 10 staff
- Planning and organising daily operations, resources, plant and equipment
- Delivering road construction, maintenance and rehabilitation work
- Supporting staff through coaching, mentoring and performance management
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders, contractors and internal teams
- Contributing to safe work practices and fostering a strong safety culture
- You will also contribute hands-on when required, supporting operational activities and plant operation (including street sweeping where needed).
Skills & Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate and hold the following mandatory requirements :
- Experience in road construction, maintenance or civil infrastructure delivery
- Proven leadership and team supervision capability
- Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
- Knowledge of WHS requirements, Council procedures and safe work practices
- Experience using Microsoft Office and operational systems
- (Mandatory) Current "C" Class Drivers Licence
- (Mandatory) General Safety Induction (White Card)
- (Mandatory) Applicants must undergo a pre-employment functional assessment (this may include respiratory testing) and be assessed as being able to meet the functional requirements of the position
- (Mandatory) MR when operating rigid vehicle with 2 axles and a GVM over 8 tonnes
- First Aid Certificate (desirable)
- Certificate 3 in Civil Construction (desirable)
- Experience in a wide range of Labouring activities relating to Civil Construction (highly desirable)
- Demonstrated experience with plant and equipment and an ability to conduct routine checks on heavy vehicles, plant and equipment including fault finding and preventative maintenance
- Competent in the operations of heavy machinery such as backhoe, roller, wheel loader and other plants of varying types and sizes including grader
- Verification of Competency correctly endorsed for the type of machine you are operating
- Thorough understanding of Health and Safety risks and hazards monitoring practices
- Sound Computer skills required
