InFocus Video Workshops
Sydney
Video & Content Creation Trainer
$40/hr + bonuses | Up to $900 per full-day workshop + 12% super
Are you a excellent teacher who also happens to love making videos?
InFocus Video Workshops is looking for a new trainer to join our team.
We teach one day, video-making workshops to organisations and individuals across Australia.
We visit private businesses, government organisations, and individuals for a day of practical, hands-on filming and editing training tailored to them.
Find out more about what we do: https://www.infocusworkshops.com/
In 2027, we’re also expanding into in-school programs, delivering content creation and digital media workshops to high school students.
So we’re looking for someone who loves teaching, loves working with people, and also has professional skills in filmmaking, videography or content creation.
Teaching experience is the most important thing we’re looking for.
You might be a teacher who freelances as a videographer or content creator. You might be a filmmaker who’s discovered that you really love teaching. Or you might already teach film, media, photography or content creation and be looking for a flexible and rewarding side gig.
What you’ll be doing
Our workshops are very hands-on.
You’ll work with individuals and groups of up to 12 people, teaching them how to plan, film and edit their own videos.
A typical full-day workshop starts with some theory before getting everyone out of their seats and actually filming a practice video. You’ll teach filming, framing, lighting, sound and interviewing before spending the afternoon helping everyone edit their videos using Adobe Premiere Pro or CapCut.
You’ll receive information about the client, their goals and equipment beforehand so you can prepare for the day. We provide the workshop structure, teaching materials and demonstration equipment.
Once you’re fully trained, you’ll have a lot of autonomy. You’ll arrive at the client’s workplace,
run the workshop yourself and take ownership of giving them a great day.
Why we think it’s a pretty great job
It’s genuinely fun and rewarding teaching.
A lot of the people we teach spend their normal working week behind a desk. Then you come in for a day and suddenly they’re filming, interviewing each other, experimenting with cameras and making something creative.
People really get into it.
One of the best parts is at the end of the day when everyone sits down and watches the videos they’ve made. Someone can arrive that morning knowing almost nothing about video and leave having actually made one themselves.
We’re really proud of the feedback our workshops receive. Check out the 200+ testimonials on our website to get a feel for the people we teach and what the days are actually like: https://www.infocusworkshops.com/testimonials
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has previous teaching, training or facilitation experience
- Has qualified experience in filmmaking, videography, content creation or a related field
- Is a great communicator and genuinely enjoys helping people learn
- Is confident teaching both filming and video editing
- Is comfortable working with complete beginners
- Enjoys working with adults and young people
- Can conduct themselves professionally with a wide range of corporate, government and education clients
- Is confident working autonomously and taking responsibility for the day
- Is technically capable and happy familiarising themselves with different cameras and equipment
- Is passionate about video,
creativity and where content creation is heading
We’re not necessarily looking for the world’s greatest cinematographer.
We’re looking for someone who knows video but, more importantly, can make a complete beginner feel comfortable, engaged and excited about making it themselves.
Pay & flexibility
This is an independent contractor position, generally with around 1–2 workshops per week, making it particularly well suited to someone already freelancing, teaching or working in the creative industries.
You’ll receive $40/hr + 12% super, including paid preparation time for every workshop.
You’ll also receive additional bonuses for group workshops. A full-day workshop pays around $350 for an individual booking, increasing up to $900 for larger group bookings, plus super. Travel time is also paid.
We believe that if the business does well from a larger workshop, our trainer should share in that win too.
InFocus in schools
From 2027, we’re expanding into Australian high schools, delivering hands-on content creation and digital media workshops for students.
We’re particularly interested in someone who enjoys working with young people and would be excited to be part of this next stage of InFocus.
How to apply
A short cover letter is a must.
Please tell us about your previous teaching, training or facilitation experience, your experience in filmmaking/video/content creation, and why you think you’d be a good fit for InFocus.
Please also include a link to examples of video work you’ve created.
Teaching experience is essential, so please make sure you tell us about it in your application.
Shortlisted applicants may then be asked to send us a quick one-minute video introducing themselves before progressing to an interview.
If you’re someone who loves teaching, loves video and gets a kick out of helping other people become more creative and confident, we’d love to hear from you.
