Taggart & Partners is a business-focused accounting and advisory firm based in East Brisbane. We work with a quality range of small and medium-sized businesses across Australia, providing taxation, accounting and business advisory services.
We value strong client relationships. Our accountants are introduced to clients early in their careers and have the opportunity to become directly involved in their accounting and taxation requirements. Many of our team have worked with their clients for more than 10 years, building strong, professional and friendly relationships along the way.
About the role
Are you completing your accounting degree, recently graduated, or in the early stages of your accounting career?
We are looking for a Graduate / Junior Accountant to join our team and build their career in public practice.
This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a diverse client base, supported by experienced team members as you build your technical knowledge and confidence.
You won't spend your time preparing endless individual tax returns. You'll gain exposure to the broader accounting and taxation needs of businesses, including financial statements, BAS, FBT, tax returns and tax planning.
What you'll be doing
Working with and learning from experienced members of the team, you will:
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and income tax returns for individuals, companies and trusts
- Prepare BAS, IAS and FBT returns
- Assist with tax planning and supporting workpapers
- Complete reconciliations and maintain accurate accounting records
- Liaise with clients to obtain information and documentation
- Develop your understanding of taxation legislation and accounting requirements
- Build your confidence in communicating directly with clients
- Develop your skills using accounting and practice-management software
- Respond to review feedback and progressively take on more complex work as your experience grows
About you
We'd like to hear from you if you have:
- Completed, or are nearing completion of, a degree in Accounting
- Between 0–2 years' accounting or bookkeeping experience — although previous experience is not essential
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- A client-focused and flexible approach
- Good organisation and time-management skills
- Initiative and developing problem-solving skills
- A collaborative, team-focused approach
What we offer
- On-the-job training and support from experienced accountants
- Ongoing professional and technical development
- Exposure to a broad range of clients, entities and industries
- Direct client exposure as your skills and confidence develop
- A supportive and cooperative team environment
- Work-life balance
- Career progression opportunities
