Your new role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced environmental professional with strong project management capability to contribute to the delivery of EPA's permissioning framework.
Reporting to the Team Leader, Operating Licences, you will manage a portfolio of permissioning projects, ensuring timely, high-quality assessments aligned with the Environment Protection Act 2017 and EPA strategic priorities.
You will play a key role in delivering and improving regulatory processes, supporting licensing decisions, and contributing to system and policy enhancements that strengthen environmental protection outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Project management of permissioning applications, managing multiple concurrent assessments with tight turnaround timeframes
- Review, assess, and determine applications (permits, licences, registrations), including preparing high-quality technical assessment reports and recommendations
- Apply structured project management principles including planning, risk assessment, prioritisation, and progress tracking
- Manage complex or escalated applications, engaging internal experts and stakeholders to support decision-making
- Contribute to licence review programs and regulatory projects, ensuring conditions effectively mitigate environmental and public health risks
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including updating processes, systems, policies, and condition libraries
- Collaborate with Science, Operations, Legal, and Business Improvement teams to deliver integrated project outcomes
- Support enhancements to business systems and workflows that improve efficiency, transparency, and service delivery
- Represent the organisation professionally when engaging with industry, government, and community stakeholders

What you'll need to succeed
You are a highly organised professional with proven experience delivering complex work programs in a regulatory or environmental context. You bring strong project management capability, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining quality and compliance.
Key Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in environmental science or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, scheduling, risk management, and delivery
- Experience in environmental permissioning or regulatory roles (Government experience highly regarded)
- Strong knowledge of the Environment Protection Act 2017 and associated regulations
- Proven ability to assess complex information, apply legislation, and deliver evidence-based outcomes
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and engage a wide range of stakeholders
- Robust systems capability, with experience using digital tools to manage workflows, reporting, and collaboration
