TheDeputyAssociateispartofasmallteamwhoassisttheJudgeintheday-to-daymanagementofChambersandCourt.ThisrolealsoassistswiththepreparationofCourtmaterialsforthejudgeandinvolvesundertakinglegalresearchandassistingwithjudgmentpreparationasrequired.

- AssisttheJudgewiththemanagementofcasesand,asrequired,enterdataintotheCourt’scasemanagementsystemstoreflecttheoutcomesofCourtevents;
- AssistwiththepreparationofmattersforboththeCourtandtheJudge,whichmayincludethepreparationofcasesummaries,generalfilemaintenanceandothertasksasrequired;
- AssisttheJudgewiththepreparationanddeliveryofjudgments,whichmayincludeundertakingcomplexlegalresearchaswellaseditinginlinewiththeCourts’judgmentspublicationstandards;
- Assistwiththegeneraloperationofchambers;and
- Otherduties,asrequired.

Qualifications

Itisamandatorythatcandidateshavecompleted(ornearcompleted)aqualificationinlawwithastrongacademicrecord.Candidatesaretohavecompletedthefamilylawsubjectorhaveastronginterestinfamilylaw.

SelectionCriteria

- Well-developedinterpersonalskillsincludingtact,discretion,initiativeandtheabilitytocommunicateeffectivelywithmembersofthejudiciary,thelegalprofession,thepublicandothercourtstaff.
- Abilitytoundertakelegalresearch(includingon-lineresearch)andpreparereportsandwrittencorrespondence.
- Demonstratedorganisationalskills,includingtheabilitytomanagepriorities,meetdeadlinesandworkeffectivelyunderpressureinateamenvironment.
- Demonstratedhigh-levelkeyboardskillsandabilitytouserelevantsoftwareapplicationsincludingMicrosoftOfficeapplicationsandtheInternet.
- Theabilitytoadapttochangingsituationsandprioritiesandparticipateincollectiveworkpractices.
- Theabilitytotraveloncircuits.





EmploymentwiththeCourtissubjecttotheconditionsprescribedinthePublicServiceAct1999,andthefollowing:

- Australiancitizenship–thesuccessfulapplicantmustholdAustraliancitizenship.
- SuccessfulapplicantsengagedintotheAPSwillbesubjecttoaprobationperiod.
