Our client is seeking an experienced Trade Controls Specialist to join their Brisbane team. This role is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and assurance of trade control requirements across a regulated, export-controlled business. You will mitigate compliance risk, support commercial objectives and ensure adherence to legislation, best practice and internal standards.

Reporting to the Director Contracts, Logistics and Supply, you will work closely with Contracts, Legal, Commercial, Business Development, Supply Chain and Program Management, as well as external parties including government trade authorities and related overseas entities.

Key responsibilities

- Assess and communicate the trade compliance implications of bids, programs and transactions.
- Work with United States exporters and related bodies corporate to generate and manage trade licences, including Technical Assistance Agreements and Defence Export Control Office authorisations.
- Develop, maintain and improve policies, procedures and guidance for trade control requirements across all relevant jurisdictions.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, customs brokers and freight forwarders to ensure correct trade classifications, exemptions, marking requirements and customs compliance.
- Manage import broker relationships, including selection, onboarding, performance evaluation and corrective action.
- Conduct annual self-assessments, internal audits and periodic health checks, and maintain the trade compliance dashboard and risk register.
- Coordinate Dual National and Third National verifications under ITAR and EAR, and maintain accurate, secure licence and transfer records.
- Develop and deliver training for staff and brokers,



and monitor regulatory changes to keep business processes current.

About you

Our client is looking for individuals with the following skills and experience:

- A high level of expertise in trade compliance, particularly US ITAR and EAR and Australian export and import legislation.
- Knowledge of approval processes through the US State Department and the Australian Defence Export Control Office.
- An understanding of customs requirements, import and export procedures and customs brokerage management. Formal customs training or certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience or demonstrated capability in internal audits, compliance assurance and managing third-party service providers.
- Proven ability in contractual and legislative interpretation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to develop, deliver and evaluate training on complex subject matter.
- Willingness to undertake occasional domestic and international travel.
- Australian citizenship, with a current Australian Security Clearance at NV1 level or eligibility to obtain one.
