Constituent Services Officer (EOA) - Office of Ash Ambihaipahar

The office of Ash Ambihaipahar MP is seeking applications for a full time ongoing Constituent Services Officer, based in the Barton Electorate Office in Kogarah, NSW.

Position Overview

We are an energetic electorate office with a digital-first approach to community engagement and constituent service. We are seeking an enthusiastic and empathetic Constituent Services Officer to lead casework and outreach, coordinate the workflow of part-time staff, manage our constituent database and support the Member’s direct engagement with the community. The ideal applicant will be organised, collaborative and confident handling complex enquiries with care and sound judgement. Knowledge of Barton’s diverse communities, experience in social work or a related field, and additional language skills would be well regarded but are not essential.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:

Respond to constituent enquiries and prepare correspondence, delegating work to part-time staff where appropriate.

Coordinate the daily tasks and workflow of part-time staff.

Manage casework relating to Centrelink, immigration, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), housing and other issues.

Enter and maintain accurate information in the constituent relationship management system.

Draft basic email updates for local community groups and constituents.

Maintain local stakeholder lists, including schools, sporting clubs and community groups.

Maintain the office’s local achievements register.

Lead engagement with Caucus Liaison Officers.

Plan constituent outreach events and advisory groups.

Oversee grant program applications and acquittals.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to respond to constituent enquiries and prepare clear, professional correspondence.





Confidence managing high-conflict conversations and de-escalating difficult constituent interactions with empathy and sound judgement.

Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Well-developed IT skills, including data entry, database management and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

An understanding of Australia’s social security system, government services and parliamentary processes.

Ability to work collaboratively, support senior staff and coordinate the work of others where required.

A commitment to the values of the Australian Labor Party.

Experience in social work or a related field, knowledge of Barton’s communities, and additional languages are desirable.

Employment conditions

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024–27, which include:

A commencing salary between $77,071 and $81,594 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.

An additional optional allowance of up to $24,008 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.

An allowance may be payable in recognition of additional languages spoken.

Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available, subject to eligibility requirements.

An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

Applicants should note the following:

An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.

The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.

Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with section 14 of the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984.

The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
