Peg’s Creek Primary School (PS) opened in 1978 and is centrally located in a well-established section of Karratha bounding the town centre. The school is one of the smallest in the town of Karratha with an average population around 230 students. As an Independent Public School we are committed to using the increased flexibilities to enhance our strategic direction and meet the specific educational needs of our students.

The school motto ‘Be Aware, Be Involved, Be Your Best’ is reflected in the ethos of the school. Students are encouraged to show initiative and actively participate and contribute in our community.

As a community we pride ourselves on our emphasis on building partnerships between students, staff and parents. Our stable enrolment is a result of a community focussed on “being aware and being involved” and providing the best possible learning environment for our students. Parental involvement is highly valued and encouraged. A strong and supportive relationship between parents, students and teachers is embedded in school practices.

The Role

The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our Indigenous students. As a liaison between the school and community, the AIEO works closely with teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs that empower our Indigenous students to reach their full potential.

Through mentoring and pastoral care, the AIEO provides support and guidance to Indigenous students,

particularly those at risk, to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom. With a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and history, the AIEO brings a unique perspective to the school community, promoting respect, understanding and harmony.

In addition to providing support to teachers and students, the AIEO also works closely with the local Indigenous community to facilitate their involvement in shaping school policies and programs. They also conduct home visits to discuss the academic progress or social development of students and provide orientation to staff about the Indigenous community.

If you are passionate about Indigenous education and culture and are looking for a rewarding and challenging role, we invite you to join our team as an AIEO and help us to empower our Indigenous students to reach their full potential. This role is initially a part of the Full time Kindergarten Pilot in 2027 and 2028. The majority of time will be spent in this area in the initial stages of the role.
