Architectural Draftsperson (30 minutes from South West Sydney)

We have a position available for a Steel Frame Designer to join our team.

Austruss is a manufacturer of quality prefabricated building components for the construction industry located in Braemar near Mittagong, Southern Highlands NSW.

We are proudly Australian owned, providing prefabricated light gauge steel framing as well as prefabricated elements such as floor cassettes, wall and facade panels, modular construction, skids for data centres and bespoke solutions. We work in Education, Health, Aged Care, Commercial, Residential and Infrastructure sectors.

Job Description – Main Duties and Responsibilities

- Undertake drafting and detailing of steel frame and truss drawings for commercial and residential structures to the Austruss Engineered System.
- Use computer-aided design (CAD) systems to prepare drawings.
- Ensure detailing is clear, complete, and accurate, defining how the frame and/or trusses are to be manufactured and erected on site.
- Check and validate detailed drawings against design documents.
- Send drawings for engineering signoff when required.
- When issues or concerns are discovered engage with designers, consultant engineers and clients to resolve the technical problems identified with guidance from the Drafting Manager.
- Ensure that documentation is uploaded to Procore and transmitted to installers, clients etc.
- Respond to queries and solve problems from Austruss production staff,



installation crews and clients when the designer is unable to solve any issues that may arise.
- Take responsibility for ensuring that drawings are produced to the project timeframes.
- Prepare production and site packages for each project, including Framecad Detailer, packlists and the like.
- Interpret architectural and structural drawings, alternative proposals provided by our designers in a ‘Design Brief’, sketches, notes, and other related information.
- Maintain CAD Libraries, Resources, Drawings Store Management Systems in accordance to Aus-Truss Style Guides.
- Log time spent drafting each job to allow accurate job costing data, send to admin for data entry.

The successful candidate will have:

- Skilled in CAD software
- Experience in the construction or engineering sector.
- Minimum of 2yrs experience in commercial structures.
- Ability to think and analyse spatially, in 3D form.
- Valuable verbal and written communication skills.
- computer skills with software such as Microsoft Office
- Experience with document management systems i.e. Aconex, Procore preferred.
