Lead a high-quality service where patients genuinely value the care they receive

At The Bays, exceptional patient care is at the heart of what we do – and our patients are telling us we are getting it right.

Our patients recently gave The Bays an outstanding Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 89, our highest monthly result since we began tracking this measure in June 2025. Even more impressively, 99% of patients rated the quality of their treatment and care as good or very good.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Unit Manager to lead our Day Infusion Service, providing clinical and operational leadership of a specialised service delivering chemotherapy and other infusion therapies.

This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of the service, lead and develop a committed nursing team, and work closely with Visiting Medical Officers and the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, contemporary and highly personalised care.

About the role

As Nurse Unit Manager - Day Infusion Service, you will be responsible for the clinical and operational leadership and performance of the unit. This role is part time, working 60 hours a fortnight.

You will lead your team to deliver safe, evidence-based and patient-centred care while ensuring the service operates efficiently and in accordance with clinical, organisational and accreditation requirements.

Your key accountabilities will include:

Leading the clinical and operational performance of the Day Infusion Service, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of chemotherapy and other infusion therapies.

Providing visible clinical leadership and ensuring nursing practice reflects contemporary, evidence-based standards for cancer and infusion care.

Leading, mentoring and developing the nursing team, maintaining the clinical capability and competencies required to safely deliver care and treatment.

Managing workforce planning, recruitment, rostering and skill mix to ensure appropriately skilled and experienced nurses are available to meet patient needs and service demand.

Overseeing medication safety and clinical governance associated with chemotherapy and infusion therapy, including compliance with treatment protocols, policies, procedures and relevant clinical standards.

Managing the operational schedule and utilisation of the service, balancing treatment requirements, patient acuity, chair capacity, staffing and resources to support safe and efficient patient flow.

Building strong collaborative relationships with oncologists, haematologists, Visiting Medical Officers, pharmacy and other members of the multidisciplinary team to support coordinated,

high-quality care.

Leading quality, safety and continuous improvement across the service, including clinical indicators, incidents, complaints, risk management and accreditation requirements.

Managing the unit's financial, physical and technical resources and monitoring performance against agreed clinical and operational KPIs.

Creating a service culture where patients and their families receive compassionate, personalised care and support throughout their treatment journey.

Championing The Bays' ICARE values - Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence - and ensuring they are reflected in the everyday experience of patients and staff.

About you

You will be an experienced oncology/chemotherapy Registered Nurse and clinical leader with the specialist knowledge and leadership capability required to manage a contemporary Day Infusion Service.

You will combine strong clinical expertise with confident people leadership and understand the importance of clinical governance, workforce capability and an exceptional patient experience within a chemotherapy and infusion environment.

You will bring:

Current Registered Nurse Division 1 registration with AHPRA.

Significant clinical experience in oncology, haematology and/or a chemotherapy/day infusion environment, with demonstrated expertise in the safe administration of systemic anti-cancer and infusion therapies and management of treatment-related reactions and complications.

Demonstrated clinical leadership experience, ideally within an oncology, haematology, cancer care or day infusion setting, with the ability to lead, develop and maintain the clinical competence of nursing staff.

Strong knowledge of medication safety, clinical governance, infection prevention, risk management and relevant National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, with experience in quality improvement, clinical audit and incident review.

Experience managing the day-to-day operations of a clinical service, including patient flow, treatment scheduling, workforce planning, rostering and skill mix.

Strong clinical judgement and decision-making skills, including the recognition, escalation and management of deteriorating patients and adverse treatment reactions.

Strong people leadership and relationship-management skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships with oncologists, haematologists, pharmacy, Visiting Medical Officers and the broader multidisciplinary team.
