Most job ads tell you a company's a great place to work. We had it confirmed twice, by our peers. In 2026, the HRIA named Hire Express Company of the Year - recognising the business. Separately, we picked up the Excellence Award for People and Culture - recognising the people in it.

Now we're looking for a Service Technician to help keep it that way. Our equipment is only as good as the people who look after it - and in our workshop or onsite, that's you.

About Hire Express

Hire Express is an award-winning Australian equipment hire company with deep industry experience and solid financial backing. We run an extensive range of modern equipment - from small power tools to excavators, rollers and tippers - across branches in NSW and WA.

We're a practical, fast-moving business. We care about our customers, take pride in what we do and are always looking for ways to get better.

The Role

This is a hands-on role for someone who loves working on a wide variety of equipment and enjoys a valuable problem to solve.

You'll service, maintain and repair everything from small engines and power tools through to plant, trucks and trailers. When a machine comes back from hire, you'll make sure it goes out again safe, reliable and ready to work - because a breakdown on a customer's site is a breakdown for their whole job.

You'll work closely with our hire controllers, drivers and yard team, and you'll have a real say in how we look after our fleet.

No two days are the same.

One minute you could be diagnosing a fault on a mini excavator. The next, you're servicing a generator, fixing a plate compactor or heading out to get a customer's machine back up and running on site.

What You'll Be Doing

- Servicing, maintaining and repairing a broad range of tools, machinery and plant
- Diagnosing faults and finding practical, lasting fixes
- Completing pre-hire and post-hire checks so every machine goes out "Hire Fit"
- Carrying out scheduled servicing to keep the fleet reliable & dependable

- Attending breakdowns and on-site repairs when customers need us
- Working with the hire team to prioritise jobs and keep equipment available
- Keeping accurate service records and job paperwork
- Keeping the workshop safe, clean and well organised
- Spotting recurring issues and suggesting better ways to do things

Everything we do runs on HARK

- Hunger to Improve - we're always looking for a better way, and personal improvement drives us forward.
- Above & Beyond - we don't do mediocrity. We make every customer a raving fan and bring a "YES" mindset to every challenge.
- Reliable & Dependable - we do what we say, on time, every time. You can count on us.
- Know Our Sh*t - we're genuine experts in our field, so our customers don't have to be. Always learning, always solving.

The Person We're Looking For

- A trade certificate in motor mechanics, with hands-on experience on small engines, motor vehicles or small plant
- A manual driver's licence and a clean driving record
- Diverse mechanical experience - or a strong willingness to expand your skills
- The ability to work independently, manage your own workload and meet deadlines
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to juggle multiple jobs in a fast-paced environment
- A level of physical fitness suited to the demands of the role

You don't need to have worked on every machine in our fleet on day one. What we do expect is that you want to learn, take ownership of your work and become someone our customers and team can count on.

What You'll Get

- Exposure to a huge range of modern equipment
- Training and development to grow your skills
- A supportive and experienced team
- Opportunity to grow with a rapidly expanding business
- A workplace where good ideas are listened to and improvements are encouraged
- The chance to be part of the HRIA's 2026 Company of the Year

The Bottom Line

This isn't a role for someone who wants to tick boxes and clock off.

It's for someone who takes pride in their work, likes solving problems and wants every machine that leaves the workshop to be right.
