About the Role
The Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) is seeking an experienced Senior Data Support Specialist (Reporting) to join our Research & Evidence Development team.
You will play an integral role in building the organisation's capacity to visualise its data and maintain its Client Management System, Actionstep.
You will work very closely with the Data Management Team and Evaluation Team to improve the reporting and usability of VALS' service data, and boost the active use of service data by service managers for monitoring, insights and decision making.
In this role, you will:
- Work closely alongside the Senior Data Support Specialist (System) to ensure VALS service data is accurate, reliable, and easy to report on.
- Build and deliver impactful dashboards and data visualisations that bring program performance, compliance and evaluation to life.
- Support and guide service managers in generating key reports through Actionstep.
- Support the Policy team to gather specific insights to support internal decision‑making.
- Assist with specialist projects within Actionstep, such as data migration, duplication identification, and correction.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, system enhancements, and process optimisation projects in Actionstep and reporting systems.
- Support the Data Manager & Analyst with customisation of the ActionStep system, including testing, user acceptance activities, and stakeholder engagement.
- Assist the Data Analyst and Manager and Research & Evidence Development Team evaluators in running sense‑making sessions with teams to draw out insights.

You will ideally bring:
- A qualification in data analysis or equivalent professional experience.
- Significant experience in data management applications/systems.
- Significant experience with data visualisation tools and techniques.
- Proficiency in SQL (mandatory) and Python (desirable).
- Attention to detail - high level accuracy in managing data and identifying data gaps and errors.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of the issues confronting Aboriginal people in relation to the delivery of legal services and associated non‑legal needs (desirable).
- Cultural awareness in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Mandatory Requirements
- A copy of your current Employee Working with Children Check card
- A copy of your current Victorian Driver's License
- You will be required to complete a current Criminal History Police Check
- Proof of rights to work in Australia, i.e., a copy of an Australian Passport, Birth Certificate, or Immigration VISA documentation
- Copies of any certificates or degrees relevant to this role
