About Mustard Made

Hello, we’re Mustard and we make colourful furniture designed to bring joy to everyday spaces. We’re a growing, design-led brand selling direct to customers around the world, alongside an expanding B2B channel.

Behind the colourful lockers is a genuinely global product business. We operate across Australia, the UK, Europe and the US, through two legal entities, multiple currencies, ecommerce and wholesale channels, with inventory held across several regions.

We’re cooperative, practical and kind. We care about doing good work, supporting each other and finding simpler, better ways to get things done. Ideas are welcomed, people take responsibility for their work and we’re always looking to improve.

Our Finance team helps us understand how all of those pieces come together, what is driving performance and where we can make better decisions as we grow. We’re looking for a Management Accountant to join our Newcastle team and help us do exactly that.

Hello, is it you we’re looking for?

You already have 3+ years of recent, relevant Management Accountant-level experience and have personally been responsible for owning the monthly accounts process. You’re comfortable working in a growing Finance function where systems, reporting and processes are still evolving.

Mustard is growing, and our Finance function is growing with it, so you’ll thrive on asking why, solving problems and finding better ways of doing things.

You want to understand what’s happening behind the numbers and what it means for the business.

You enjoy connecting financial performance back to what’s actually happening day to day. That could mean inventory and freight, regional performance, marketing investment, customer mix or different sales channels, and understanding how those things ultimately affect margin and profitability.

You’ll enjoy ownership and variety, and you’ll be excited by the opportunity to help improve the way Finance works as Mustard grows.

Experience in ecommerce, retail, wholesale, consumer products, FMCG, manufacturing or another inventory-led business would be particularly relevant.

If you want to see the direct impact of your work and help shape Finance inside an ambitious global brand, we’d love to meet you.

What’s in it for you?

A meaningful role in a Finance function that is still being shaped, where your ideas can genuinely improve how we work

Exposure to a global business across multiple entities, currencies, regions and sales channels

The chance to work closely with teams across Ecommerce, Marketing, Merchandising, Wholesale and Operations

Plenty of opportunity to improve systems, reporting and processes rather than simply inherit them

What you’ll be doing

Management accounting + reporting

- Month-end: Own the accurate and timely month-end close across our Australian and UK entities, including journals, accruals, reconciliations, consolidation and supporting information.
- Management reporting : Produce clear, meaningful monthly management accounts that give the business an accurate view of performance and help explain what is happening and why.
- Multi-entity + cashflow : Bring together financial information across our entities, regions and currencies to support consolidated reporting and accurate cashflow forecasting across the business.
- Financial accuracy : Get close enough to the detail to understand what sits behind the numbers, investigate discrepancies and resolve issues before they flow through to reporting.
- Year-end + compliance : Support statutory reporting, year-end and audit requirements, tax and financial compliance across our regions, working with our Head of Finance and specialist external advisors where needed.

Systems + improvement

- Process improvement : Investigate and improve finance processes, controls and reporting, turning manual tasks into scalable systems.
- Finance systems: Work across our finance and operational systems to improve data quality, reporting and the flow of information between them.
- Controls: Maintain and improve key accounting controls to protect the accuracy and reliability of our financial information as the business becomes more complex.
- Problem-solving: Be comfortable working with imperfect data or processes,

getting to the root of an issue and helping create a practical solution.
- External partners : Work effectively with accountants, tax advisors and other external finance partners, making sure we use their expertise where it adds the most value.

Commercial finance + analysis

- Understand performance : Analyse results across regions, channels, products and customers, connecting financial outcomes back to the operational and commercial drivers behind them.
- Profitability: Improve visibility of margin and profitability, helping us understand where we make money, what is changing and what investment is delivering.
- Budgeting + forecasting : Support budgeting and forecasting by reviewing assumptions, preparing financial information and helping make our forecasts more useful and accurate.
- Business support : Build trusted relationships across Mustard, helping teams understand the financial impact of decisions and use financial information with greater confidence.
