Salary $84,843 - $100,894 per annum (pro rata) + 12% super

The City of Fremantle is currently seeking to appoint a Aboriginal and Cultural Programming Officer to design, deliver and evaluate cultural programs and community activation that support Aboriginal people in Walyalup/Fremantle to connect with culture, Country and community.

Key Responsibilities

- Engage Aboriginal community members, Elders and cultural leaders to ensure programs reflect community priorities, lived experience and cultural integrity.

- Design, deliver and evaluate cultural programs and community activation across the Walyalup Aboriginal Cultural Centre, community venues and City spaces.

- Build and maintain effective relationships with Aboriginal community organisations, Elders, cultural facilitators, artists and practitioners to strengthen program reach and impact.

- Support cultural safety and Aboriginal inclusion across the team's programming domains.

- Contribute to the City's truth-telling program and campaigns aligned to key dates of significance.





- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and responsive programming approach.

- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, using community feedback and data to improve quality and outcomes, and contribute to team reporting against the Shared Outcomes Framework.

- Identify and support funding and partnership opportunities that enhance program delivery and sustainability.

- Represent the City in relevant Aboriginal community networks and forums.

To be considered for this position, you will need

- Aboriginality — this is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people under section 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA). Aboriginality is an essential requirement of this role.

- Demonstrated knowledge of and connection to Whadjuk Nyoongar culture, history and community, with the ability to design and deliver culturally grounded programming that reflects community priorities and self-determination principles.

- Demonstrated experience designing, delivering and evaluating community programs or cultural activities with and for Aboriginal communities.

- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with Aboriginal community members, Elders, cultural leaders and organisations, and to work in ways that are respectful, culturally safe and grounded in community voice.

- Ability to work in active alliance with non-Aboriginal colleagues, providing cultural knowledge and community relationships to support others to hold their own responsibility for cultural safety.

- Sound understanding of the local Aboriginal community landscape in Fremantle and the broader Perth metropolitan area,



including knowledge of key organisations, services and cultural networks.

- Sound communication, organisational and report writing skills, including the ability to contribute to team planning, event coordination and outcome reporting.

- Tertiary qualifications in community development, Aboriginal studies, arts, social sciences or a related discipline; or equivalent demonstrated skilled experience in community programming, cultural facilitation or Aboriginal community engagement.

- Current WA driver’s licence.

- Current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (or willingness to obtain).
