We are seeking a high-calibre Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join a well-established and growing Workplace Relations & Safety team in Melbourne.
This is an opportunity to work closely with experienced practitioners and advise a diverse client base across a broad range of employment, workplace relations and safety matters.
The role would suit a senior employment lawyer who enjoys being close to clients, takes ownership of their matters and is motivated by providing clear, practical and commercially focused advice across both contentious and non-contentious workplace issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise clients across a broad range of employment, workplace relations and safety matters throughout the employment lifecycle
- Advise on employment contracts, workplace policies, performance management, disciplinary matters, terminations and workplace restructures
- Manage and advise on workplace investigations, disputes, employee claims and other contentious employment matters
- Represent and assist clients in employment and workplace proceedings before relevant courts, commissions and tribunals
- Provide advice on industrial instruments, enterprise agreements and broader workplace relations issues
- Work directly with clients and senior stakeholders, developing trusted and commercially focused relationships
- Manage matters with a high degree of autonomy while working collaboratively with Partners and the broader team
- Contribute to the development of the practice through mentoring junior lawyers, knowledge sharing and business development initiatives
Ideal Professional:
- Senior Associate or Special Counsel level with strong employment and/or workplace relations experience
- Strong technical capability across both advisory and contentious employment matters
- Experience independently managing matters and advising clients on complex workplace issues
- Confident dealing directly with clients and able to provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice
- Strong drafting, negotiation and advocacy skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Commercially minded, solutions-focused and able to exercise sound judgement
- Able to work collaboratively within a team while taking ownership and operating with a high degree of autonomy
- Experience with workplace investigations, industrial relations or safety matters would be advantageous
