Agile Edge
Melbourne
About UsAgile Edge is a small, modern civil tendering and consulting business supporting contractors across Victoria, with a growing presence interstate.
We’re currently a team of two, so this isn’t a traditional corporate environment with layers of management, rigid job descriptions and systems that have been set in stone for years.
We work closely together, move quickly, use modern systems and technology, and are always looking for better and more efficient ways to do things.
The work can be fast-paced and varied, but the environment is relaxed, practical and down-to-earth. We take the work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.
Because we’re a small team, you won’t just be stepping into a role where every process has already been decided for you.
You’ll be working on real-world business and project problems and will have genuine input into how we solve them.
That might mean helping us improve how we track contracts, organise project information, manage administration, follow up actions, build better internal systems or simply find a smarter way of doing something that isn’t working as well as it should.
In a larger business, you might be measured mainly on how well you follow an existing system.
Here, you’ll also have a say in what the system should be.
We’re building the business around good people, good systems, technology and a willingness to try new ideas, and we want someone who enjoys being part of that process.
About the RoleWe’re looking for a reliable, organised and switched-on person to join us approximately 2–3 days per week in a mixed business administration and contract administration role.
It’s deliberately a broad role.
You’ll help keep the day-to-day business organised while also supporting our tendering, consulting and project work.
Some days might involve project documentation and contracts. Other days might involve invoices, following up outstanding information, organising files, updating systems, communicating with clients or helping keep the office running smoothly.
You do not need to come from civil construction or contract administration.
We can teach the technical side.
What matters much more to us is finding someone with the right attitude — somebody who is dependable, curious, learns quickly, communicates well,
takes ownership and genuinely wants to become good at what they do.
What You’ll Be DoingYour responsibilities will develop as you learn the business, but will generally include:
- General business and office administration
- Contract and project administration support
- Maintaining project files, registers and records
- Document control and keeping information organised
- Following up outstanding actions, approvals and documentation
- Assisting with purchase orders, variations and subcontractor documentation
- Preparing correspondence, meeting notes and basic reports
- Assisting with invoicing and general finance administration
- Helping maintain and improve internal systems, templates and processes
- Supporting tender and project coordination where required
- Communicating with clients, contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders
- Helping the team stay on top of deadlines and loose ends
- Identifying things that could work better and helping us improve them
- Generally jumping in where needed to keep the business moving
We don’t expect somebody to walk through the door knowing how to do all of this. We will train the right person.
Who We’re Looking ForExperience is useful, but attitude is more important to us.
We would genuinely rather hire someone with limited industry experience who is reliable, curious and willing to learn than somebody with an impressive résumé who isn’t the right fit for a small business.
You’ll probably suit us if you:
- Are naturally organised
- Are reliable and do what you say you’ll do
- Have a positive attitude and are willing to learn
- Communicate well and are comfortable dealing with different people
- Take ownership rather than waiting to be told every little thing
- Are comfortable asking questions when you don’t know something
- Can make sensible everyday decisions and keep moving
- Follow things through and don’t like leaving loose ends
- Can manage several priorities without losing track of things
- Pick up new systems and technology reasonably quickly
- Have good attention to detail
- Are comfortable working in a small, evolving business
- Like solving problems rather than simply following instructions
- Have ideas and are willing to contribute them
- Enjoy being part of a team rather than disappearing into a large organisation
- Have a sense of humour and don’t mind a workplace that is a little less corporate than most
Previous experience in administration, contracts, construction, engineering, professional services or a similar environment would certainly be helpful, but none of it is essential. What Makes the Role DifferentBecause we’re small, the impact of your work will be visible.
You won’t be one person in a large department completing one small part of a process somebody else designed years ago.
You’ll be close to the actual work, the decisions and the problems we’re trying to solve.
If something isn’t working well, we want you to question it.
If you have an idea for a better process, we want to hear it.
If we need to build a new system, you may help us design it, test it and improve it.
You’ll have genuine input into how the business operates, not just responsibility for implementing somebody else’s system.
What the Role Could BecomeWe’re still a small business, which means there is plenty of opportunity for the right person to grow with us.
Initially, the focus will be on learning the business and helping us stay organised.
Over time, there is scope to take greater ownership of areas such as business administration, contract administration, project support, systems and internal operations.
We’re not looking for somebody who already knows everything.
We’re looking for somebody who could become extremely valuable to the business over time.
