About the role

Black Seed Eatery is a specialty coffee café in the heart of Parramatta, serving seasonal, contemporary food made with fresh, wholesome ingredients, alongside a busy corporate catering service. We are seeking an experienced and creative Chef to lead our kitchen. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning our seasonal menus, preparing and cooking high-quality dishes, and managing day-to-day kitchen operations.

This role is suited to individuals with strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.

Key responsibilities

- Plan and develop seasonal breakfast, lunch and catering menus, and estimate food and labour costs.

- Order food supplies, monitor stock levels and liaise with suppliers to ensure fresh, quality produce.

- Prepare and cook dishes using a variety of cooking techniques, ensuring consistency in taste, quality and presentation.

- Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.

- Prepare and coordinate catering orders, including platters,



boxed lunches and grazing tables for corporate events.

- Cater for special dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

- Supervise, train and mentor kitchen staff, and demonstrate cooking techniques and procedures.

- Explain and enforce food safety and hygiene standards in line with Australian regulations.

- Store, freeze and preserve food in temperature-controlled environments and minimise food waste.

- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised kitchen, including the upkeep of kitchen equipment.

About you

- Certificate IV in Kitchen Management and Diploma of Hospitality Management (or equivalent).

- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen.

- Conversant in English.

- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.

- Good communication, organisational and time-management skills.

- Availability to work early morning shifts, Monday to Friday and/or weekends.
