Our team The Repository is responsible for managing the samples and digital data submitted under the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act (2006) (OPGGSA) and supporting the release of offshore petroleum acreage for the productive and sustainable development of Australia’s offshore energy resources. The Repository is also responsible for the storage, maintenance and delivery of an archive of geological resources including offshore and onshore exploration data and samples.

The role The Client Services Officer is responsible for providing assistance in sourcing relevant and appropriate OPGGSA or similar data for both internal and external clients. In this role, you will respond to client requests that are unique and have a broad range of complexity. You will develop your expertise with the online discovery and self-service portal of the National Offshore Petroleum Information Management System (NOPIMS).

You will be responsible for identifying and delivering advice on data associated with our physical and digital holdings to internal and external clients. As such, you will liaise with internal and external clients on project requirements, independently manage various and often challenging tasks,



and be accountable for all the tasks assigned to you and the decisions you make. You will be required to be proactive in improving and developing processes to respond to the changing needs of our data clients and promote Geoscience Australia’s tools to access geological and geophysical information.

In this role you will:

- represent Geoscience Australia in a professional and courteous manner and strive to achieve positive outcomes
- respond to client and/or stakeholder requests, and using a variety of tools, perform objective and systematic research and analysis to obtain accurate conclusions based on evidence
- liaise with a range of internal and external clients, including the handling of more complex enquiries
- ensure the team is informed of potential issues and provide suggested solutions
- ensure that all necessary information relevant to your work is recorded systematically and maintain a high level of accuracy
- gather, analyse and report on customer feedback
- contribute to setting the direction of work priorities and practices for the team
- contribute innovative ideas to improve the quality and efficiency of services provided by the team.

To be successful in the role you will:

- build and sustains relationships; liaise with a range of stakeholders including team members, other teams, colleagues and clients
- structure messages clearly and succinctly, both orally and in writing; focus on communication of key points
- focus on gaining a clear understanding of others' comments by listening, asking clarifying questions and reflecting back; check to ensure own views have been understood
- be responsive to changes in client and stakeholder needs; provide courteous, prompt and professional service to clients
- actively participate in decision-making and incorporate outcomes of decision-making into work plans; operate as an effective member of the team; work collaboratively; draw on team strengths
- think laterally; be innovative; identify and implement improved work practices
- build an understanding of required tools and systems to be able to identify the implications of issues for own work and work area
- take personal responsibility for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements; take the initiative to progress work when required
- adhere to the APS Values and Code of Conduct and consistently behave in an honest, ethical and professional way.

Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications

- demonstrated experience with geoscientific data management, reporting and some experience with relational databases is highly desirable
- excellent communication skills, both written and oral




- lifting of boxes may be required following the completion of a manual handling course
- experience working in a customer service environment would be highly regarded.
