The Electromagnetic Warfare and Intelligence Systems (Maritime) Systems Program Office (EWIS-M SPO) is seeking a highly motivated APS 6 Communications Engineer to apply their skills to an exciting portfolio of work in support of delivering capabilities to the Australian Navy.
As a Communications Engineer in EWIS-M SPO, you will have exceptional stakeholder engagement; excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills. You will be relied upon to assist with specialist professional knowledge of risks associated with developmental and advanced technologies, including recommendations to mitigate technology development risk in a complex environment.
The role will see you will provide detailed communications engineering technical and professional advice in relation to complex electronic warfare technology development and acquisition projects, with a focus on RF systems. You will contribute to strategic planning, engineering and project management and policy development.
The right candidate will show the flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the Defence environment and the agility to realign resourcing to meet new demands. In this role, you will provide support and guidance to your team to ensure they are sensitive to Defence Strategic direction and to excel, while exercising a significant degree of independence.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
EWIS-M SPO provides acquisition and sustainment support for a number of maritime electronic warfare systems and specialist signals intelligence capabilities. The SPO delivers these capabilities to both the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and United States Navy.
EWIS-Maritime SPO currently manages a number of Electronic Warfare Systems fitted to both the surface and sub-surface fleet, such as the Nulka Decoy product, Modernisation of Maritime Electronic Warfare (MMEW) Project and various Sensors and Electronic Attack products in both acquisition and sustainment phases, operating under a continuous capability development and delivery framework to support maritime electromagnetic manoeuver warfare.
EWIS-M SPO is widely dispersed across Australia, with this position based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. The successful applicant will participate in an integrated team, including APS, ADF and Contracted staff, to deliver and sustain e capabilities in accordance with operational and compliance requirements, budget, and service agreements. Our Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will have:
- Experience performing critical and complex engineering activities and providing advice in the field of communication engineering under broad direction of an engineering manager.
- Ability to be accountable for exercising assigned engineering authorities under a Navy Technical Regulatory Authority delegation in engineering.
- The ability to manage complex system integration, engineering and technical regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate applying engineering knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties and take these into account in planning, decision-making, priority setting, and assist stakeholders with mitigation options.
- The ability to monitor and ensure safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into engineering activities;
- Skills and experience in engineering, ideally with insight into electronic warfare systems and/or agile systems development;
- Tailor communication style and language to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in previous roles exercising communication engineering knowledge and providing advice and recommendations on the development of advancements to established engineering principles, techniques, methods and regulations.
- Experience assessing technical and design packages including scoping, planning, reviewing, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions.
- Evaluate that the delivered materiel meets requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions.
- Defence specific training will be provided to the successful candidate to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to undertake the role effectively.
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 2”.
Mandatory Qualifications:
The engineering position requires a Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian institution, or a qualification gained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a Skilled Engineer.
