MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION The Course Coordinator - Human Services is the campus-based academic coordinator responsible for the consistent, effective and accredited delivery of assigned Human Services courses at an approved Stanley College campus. The role coordinates day-to-day course delivery, teaching teams, assessment activity, student academic outcomes, course records and continuous improvement under the direction of the relevant Academic Program Manager.
The position ensures local delivery meets approved curriculum, Community Work Australia accreditation requirements and institutional academic standards, while contributing to equivalence across campuses and delivery modes. The role is designed to extend to Social Work courses once introduced, subject to the appointee meeting the applicable professional qualification and accreditation requirements.
The Course
Coordinator may undertake teaching, assessment and related academic duties when required to maintain delivery quality or continuity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Campus Course Delivery and Coordination
- Coordinate day-to-day delivery of assigned Human Services courses at the designated campus in accordance with approved course documentation, academic calendars and delivery plans.
- Confirm unit readiness, teaching coverage, learning resources, assessment schedules and campus-specific requirements before each teaching period.
- Resolve routine delivery issues promptly and escalate material risks, resourcing needs or proposed changes to the Academic Program Manager.
- Coordinate effectively with School Managers and central teams while retaining accountability for academic delivery at the campus.
Teaching and Academic Practice
- Undertake teaching, assessment, moderation, student consultation or unit coordination when required and within approved workload allocation.
- Provide short-term teaching coverage where necessary to protect continuity, while escalating sustained staffing gaps for formal resolution.
- Model inclusive, contemporary and evidence-informed teaching across face-to-face, blended and online delivery modes.
- Maintain disciplinary, skilled and pedagogical currency relevant to the assigned course and any units taught.
Academic Staff Coordination and Capability
- Coordinate and support Unit Coordinators, lecturers and sessional staff involved in campus delivery, setting clear expectations for teaching, assessment, communication and record completion.
- Support the academic induction and orientation of new staff and ensure they understand the approved curriculum, accreditation requirements and local delivery arrangements.
- Monitor completion of allocated academic work and address routine issues, referring formal workload, conduct or sustained performance matters to the Academic Program Manager.
- Monitor relevant professional development and industry-currency requirements, including CWA requirements for staff teaching core units, and provide evidence through approved institutional processes.
Assessment, Results and Academic Standards
- Coordinate assessment implementation, marking, moderation and results readiness for the assigned course at the campus.
- Promote consistent interpretation of assessment criteria and academic standards across units, cohorts, campuses and delivery modes.
- Verify that results and required academic records are accurate, complete and submitted within institutional deadlines before formal ratification and publication processes.
- Identify assessment or results anomalies and ensure corrective action or escalation occurs before governance deadlines.
Student Academic Outcomes and Experience
- Monitor student participation, achievement, progression indicators and feedback at the campus and coordinate timely academic intervention where concerns emerge.
- Ensure students receive accurate course-level academic advice and are referred to Learner Support, Course Progression or other services through established pathways.
- Respond to complex academic enquiries, complaints and appeals within delegation, maintaining procedural fairness and complete records.
- Use student outcome and experience data to recommend practical improvements to local and course-wide delivery.
Curriculum Consistency and Continuous Improvement
- Ensure local delivery covers the approved curriculum, learning outcomes, required knowledge and skills, and professional practice expectations.
- Collaborate with the Academic Program Manager and other campus Course Coordinators to maintain academic equivalence across locations and modes.
- Contribute disciplinary and delivery expertise to course monitoring, curriculum review, benchmarking and approved redevelopment activity.
- Maintain and track campus-level continuous improvement actions and confirm their implementation and impact.
Accreditation and Professional Standards
- Coordinate campus delivery in accordance with current CWA accreditation conditions and, when applicable, the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards.
- Serve as the principal operational course contact at the campus for accreditation activity and support authorised institutional engagement with CWA, AASW, TEQSA and other relevant bodies.
- Maintain accurate evidence concerning staffing, qualifications, industry currency, unit allocations, teaching resources, course delivery and student outcomes.
- Promptly advise the Academic Program Manager and QA&C; of proposed or actual changes that may affect accreditation, including staffing, unit allocation, campus delivery or curriculum changes.
- Coordinate with the Fieldwork Placement Coordinator and Strategic Partnerships to ensure academic and operational placement interfaces support approved course and accreditation requirements.
Governance, Reporting and Academic Risk
- Provide accurate campus-level analysis and evidence for School, course, committee and Academic Board reporting through the Academic Program Manager.
- Maintain complete course records and support audits, accreditation reviews, annual registration or reporting, and institutional quality assurance activity.
- Identify, document and escalate academic, staffing, student, accreditation and delivery risks, and coordinate agreed corrective actions.
- Implement approved academic policies,
governance decisions and course changes consistently at the campus.
Prioritise Workplace Safety
- Support a safe physical and psychosocial learning and working environment for students and staff.
- Identify, report and escalate hazards, incidents, safeguarding concerns and wellbeing risks in accordance with College requirements.
- Model ethical practice, professional conduct, cultural safety, inclusion and respect for diversity.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Experience and Qualifications
- A qualification in community work, social welfare, human services, social work or a closely related field that is equivalent to or higher than the course being coordinated.
- At least three years' relevant industry experience in human or community services, as required by Community Work Australia.
- Demonstrated experience in higher education teaching, course or unit coordination, assessment and academic quality processes.
- For coordination or teaching within an accredited Social Work course, an AASW-accredited social work qualification and eligibility for AASW membership, together with any additional ASWEAS staffing requirements, will be required.
- Postgraduate qualification and experience in multi-campus, blended or online delivery are desirable.
Knowledge and Skills
- Robust knowledge of Human Services education, contemporary professional practice and the Community Work Australia accreditation requirements.
- Capacity to develop and apply knowledge of the ASWEAS and social work education requirements as the discipline expands.
- Sound understanding of higher education curriculum, assessment, moderation, academic integrity, student support, AQF and the Higher Education Standards Framework.
- Ability to coordinate academic delivery and influence teaching teams across a campus while maintaining institution-wide course consistency.
- Ability to analyse student, assessment and delivery data, identify risk and implement practical improvement actions.
- Strong communication, organisation, judgement, relationship management and documentation skills.
- Commitment to culturally responsive, inclusive, ethical and student-centred education.
EXTENT OF AUTHORITY
- Operates within approved curriculum, accreditation conditions, academic delegations, workload allocation, budget parameters and direction established by the Academic Program Manager and Stanley College.
- Has delegated authority for day-to-day academic coordination and delivery of the assigned course at the designated campus.
- May coordinate academic work, require completion of routine course and assessment actions, and make local operational adjustments within approved plans.
- May undertake or allocate short-term teaching and assessment activity within delegation to maintain continuity and quality.
- Must escalate material concerns involving staffing, student outcomes, academic standards, accreditation, safety or delivery continuity.
- Does not independently approve new courses, material curriculum changes, staffing establishments, formal progression outcomes, regulatory submissions or accreditation determinations unless separately delegated.
- Does not own placement sourcing or case administration, central learner support, formal results publication, academic records or routine student administration.
