Odyssey House NSW’s trauma-informed services set us apart as a leader in the support service space for alcohol and other drugs dependency. Our teams help clients to meet their goals and address underlying trauma and mental health issues, while also developing new skills to improve all aspects of their lives.

We provide a diverse range of services to individuals, families and community education. Our services include withdrawal services; one-on-one assessment and treatment by psychologists and counsellors; group therapy; residential rehabilitation; and free education at Odyssey College.

Description:

Work with dads to take responsibility for their behaviour and build safer families

Regular clinical and practice supervision

Based in Blacktown, with travel across Odyssey sites

We’re looking for a practitioner to help deliver TRACKS (Towards Recovery, Accountability and Change for Kids and Self), working with dads who are using, or at risk of using, violence in their families

Complete suitability assessments with men referred to the program, and work with them to set goals and plan their support

Facilitate structured TRACKS group sessions and provide one to one treatment and case work

Hold dads accountable for their behaviour while keeping a respectful, non-collusive working relationship

Work closely with our Family Support Case Worker so partners, children and victim-survivors are supported and kept safe

Liaise with police, courts, Community Corrections, child protection and other services as part of a joined-up response to family violence

Keep accurate case notes, risk assessments and program records, and prepare reports for courts and other stakeholders

Help build the program as it grows, and contribute to the wider family violence service system

Skills and Experiences:

Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, counselling, welfare or a related field (or working towards one, with substantial relevant experience)

Certificate IV or Graduate Certificate in Men’s Behaviour Change, or working towards it

Experience running groups and/or one to one work with men who may be reluctant or resistant to engage A sound understanding of family violence, coercive control, the gendered drivers of violence, and the impact on women and children

Ability to support men with AOD, mental health, trauma and justice involvement, with knowledge of approaches such as CBT, DBT and ACT

Sound risk assessment and risk management skills, and good judgement about when to escalate

Commitment to victim-survivor centred, gender-informed practice

Emotional resilience, with the ability to stay calm and hold boundaries through difficult conversations

Strong writing skills for case notes, risk assessments and reports

Current NSW Driver Licence

WWCC (paid work)

National Police Check (< 1 yr old)

Unrestricted right to work in Australia
