The role

As a Data Analyst in our Sydney office, you will transform complex operational risk, critical operations, service provider, incident, and breach notification data into meaningful insights that inform supervisory and policy decisions and strengthen industry resilience outcomes.

The successful candidate will possess strong data analytics and reporting skills, including advanced query development, data modelling, and the use of Power BI and R/Python to produce dashboards, visualisations and recurring reporting. They will confidently use AI and be able to identify trends and deliver transparent, data-driven insights to support supervisory and business outcomes. This is initially a 6-month fixed term contract but there is the potential for this to extend.

The team The Non-Financial Risk (NFR) team is responsible for providing identification, insight and supervision strategies for managing non-financial risks including technology risk and resilience at regulated entities and across the financial services system. This includes key risk streams such as Operational Risk and Resilience, Technology and Cyber Security Risks and Resilience, Governance and Behavioural practices.

The NFR team brings specialist risk knowledge and skills to deliver APRA's mandate and corporate plan in partnership with APRA's frontline supervision, cross industry risk and policy teams to drive strategic outcomes and support strong prudential oversight across Banking, Superannuation and Insurance. Each day is different and the team plays a critical role in ensuring that risks are identified and managed leading to more resilient organisations and a stable financial system.

Key responsibilities

- Analyse CPS 230-related data including operational incidents, critical operations, material service providers and breach notifications;
- Develop dashboards, metrics, and key risk indicators to monitor operational resilience across regulated entities, cohorts, industries and the system as a whole;
- Automate data management processes,



cleansing, validation, and reporting processes;
- Apply AI and machine learning techniques to identify patterns, anomalies, and insights;
- Produce concise, executive-ready reports and visualisations for senior stakeholders; and
- Collaborate with risk specialists, supervisors, and technology teams to enhance data-driven supervision.

About you

- Experience in data analytics, business intelligence, risk analytics, or related disciplines;
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills, including identifying trends, outliers and emerging risks in CPS230 submissions;
- Experience developing meaningful metrics, trends, and performance indicators;
- Experience with coding and data visualisation tools such as Power BI, SQL and R to query, analyse data and build dashboards and management reporting;
- Experience with: Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), Prompt engineering and AI-assisted analytics;
- Automation of reporting and analytical workflows;
- Knowledge of CPS 230 Operational Risk Management and the APRA prudential framework; and
- Experience within financial services or regulatory environments.
