The Role
Joint Experimentation and Wargaming Laboratory - Canberra (JEWL-C) Manager
JEWL-C comprises seven Experimentation Spaces in two buildings at Fairbairn in the ACT. The JEWL-C Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of this facility, including the acceptance and prioritisation of bookings from DSTG and broader Defence users, participant access registers, standard operating procedures, liaising with frequent users such as Joint Experimentation Directorate, assisting with pre-activity orientation visits and trouble-shooting issues that arise during use of the spaces.
The JEWL-C manager also contributes to the continuous improvement of this facility as an analytic capability, including the design of the ICT systems, its priority use as a wargaming laboratory that delivers decision support, and the necessary maintenance and upgrades required for security accreditation.
Applied Data Scientist – Futures Data Analytics The Applied Data Scientist – Futures Data Analytics will lead the development and application of cutting-edge data science methodologies to help stakeholders make data-driven decisions in the emerging and disruptive technology domain. The role will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and AI-enabled platforms that reliably ingest, transform, and serve high-quality data for analytics, reporting, and applications.
Senior Strategic Analyst
We are seeking an experienced multidisciplinary researcher to join our team as a Senior Strategic Analyst. The successful candidate will apply scientific and analytical methods to examine complex strategic challenges, identify asymmetric opportunities and vulnerabilities, and provide clear, evidence-based insights to inform high-level Defence planning, capability development and prioritisation.
The role will involve close collaboration with senior Defence stakeholders to shape and deliver high-priority, time-critical research and analysis.
Senior Optimisation and Analytics Specialist The Senior Optimisation and Analytics Specialist will lead the development and application of optimisation and analytical methods to solve complex Defence problems. The role will need to deliver high quality operational insight for making high impact decisions. You will need to have a partnering level engagement with stakeholders and academia and contribute to the advancement of optimisation and analytics modelling, simulation and analysis capability within the Workforce Simulation and Systems Effectiveness STC.
We will establish a talent pool through this recruitment activity, which may be used to fill similar current and future vacancies arising over the next 18 months.
About our Team The Human and Decision Sciences Division (HADS) provides science-based advice to help Defence make better decisions and improve warfighter performance in complex situations. We do this through operations research and studies in human and social sciences.

You have a strong interest and experience in operations analysis with a proactive approach to adapting and applying qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques.
You have a demonstrated ability to lead and conduct complex operations analysis studies including planning, managing a study team, execution and reporting. You have excellent communication skills, the ability to convey complex information, and can collaborate with a wider range of internal and external stakeholders across Defence, industry, universities and overseas partners.
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at Negative Vetting Level 1.

The S&T5;/EL1 Senior Researcher - Operations Analysis position requires:
Academic qualifications in one or more of the following related fields of research; or relevant skills and work experience.
