We are seeking multiple Directors within Enforcement Branches across the Fair Work Ombudsman’s Operations Group. Full-time and part-time hours are available. Offers will be based on candidate performance and operational requirements.

About the FWO The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) is an independent statutory office established by the Fair Work Act 2009 (Fair Work Act). Our functions outline the responsibilities we have as set by the Fair Work Act and other legislation to achieve our Purpose:

- Provide education, assistance, advice and guidance to employers, employees, outworkers, outworker entities and organisations
- Promote and monitor compliance with workplace laws
- Inquire into and investigate breaches of the Fair Work Act
- Take appropriate enforcement action
- Perform our statutory functions efficiently, effectively, economically and ethically.

About the Roles The Executive Level 2 Director, Enforcement roles work in multiple Enforcement Branches within the FWO’s Operations Group. Directors in each branch lead a large, geographically dispersed team of Fair Work Inspectors, including Team Leaders and Assistant Directors.

Each team is responsible for proactively identifying and responding to non-compliance with the Fair Work Act in accordance with the FWO’s Compliance and Enforcement policy, our Strategic Objectives, Purpose and Statement of Intent.

Directors within Enforcement Branches are required to work across the FWO and with key external stakeholders such as employer associations, unions and other government agencies to implement comprehensive regulatory strategies.





Typical Duties The duties of this role include, however, are not limited to:

- Lead a large team of Fair Work Inspectors, managing workflow, resources, performance and workforce planning
- Work across the FWO to develop and implement strategies for the detection of non-compliance with the Fair Work Act
- Oversee high-risk, sensitive, and high-profile workplace investigations into non-compliance with the Fair Work Act including the application of the enforcement outcomes available under the Fair Work Act and in line with our Compliance and Enforcement Policy
- Represent the FWO in external forums
- Provide high-quality briefings and recommendations to the FWO’s boards and senior leaders
- Building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Managing risk and exercising delegations aligned with the Executive Level 2 Director level.

Please note: Executive Level employees will sometimes be required to work and be contactable outside of hours. Operational needs will often require you to work part of the week in your local office, with flexibility requests considered on a case-by-case basis. Some domestic travel will be required (including overnight).

Selection Criteria

- Deep understanding of the Australian workplace relations framework and contemporary regulatory approaches relevant to the Fair Work Ombudsman's operational setting
- Extensive management experience in a regulatory context overseeing investigations and determining proportionate enforcement outcomes, including the commencement of court proceedings
- Strong leadership skills, including in strategically aligning large and geographically dispersed teams, building capability and engagement, managing performance, and fostering a high-performing regulatory culture
- The ability to influence internal and external stakeholders at senior levels, including bringing parties together on key issues and building constructive relationships to achieve impactful outcomes
- The ability to draw on data, intelligence and evidence to develop and implement comprehensive regulatory strategies, including identifying systemic workplace issues and translating insights into targeted interventions
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgement in complex, high-risk or sensitive regulatory matters, including assessing risk, managing resources,



balancing competing priorities and delivering effective outcomes.

Highly desirable

- Diploma of Government Investigations

Eligibility To be eligible for employment with the FWO you must be an Australian citizen. The successful candidate must also hold a current Australian Government Security Clearance (AGSVA) or be willing to undergo and obtain a Baseline security clearance.

Please note: Under section 700(2) of the Fair Work Act, the Fair Work Ombudsman may only appoint a Fair Work Inspector if the Fair Work Ombudsman is satisfied the person is of good character.
