Primary objective
Lead a team to provide expert, evidence-based advice to Senior Executives and the Minister through critical and timely analysis of national and Northern Territory (NT) strategic policy issues. Lead the identification and analysis of emerging opportunities and challenges to shape policy settings that support a productive, sustainable, and resilient NT primary industries.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead a team that provides timely, evidence-based advice to Senior Executives and the Minister on complex and emerging policy issues,
aligning national priorities with NT opportunities.
1. Undertake high level economic, technical and strategic analysis to inform policy development including identifying risks, opportunities
and long-term implications for industry and Government.
1. Shape and influence the development, coordination and continuous improvement of strategic policy frameworks through effective
engagement and negotiations with stakeholders across industry, Government, research organisations and jurisdictions.
1. Lead the preparation of high-quality strategic documents, including Cabinet submissions, policy papers, briefings and reports to inform
decision making.
1. Drive a coordinated approach to development by integrating policy, extension and industry development considerations into cohesive
strategies.
1. Lead and manage a small, multi-disciplinary team, ensuring delivery of high-quality outputs, effective resource management and
responsiveness to emerging priorities.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Significant experience in policy development, reform and provision of strategic advice on economic, or industry development in primary
industries or related sectors.
1. Strong strategic thinking, leadership and people management capability, including leading teams, developing staff and managing
performance.
1. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain team-oriented relationships and strategic partnerships with industry, Government and other
stakeholders.
1. Demonstrated project, program and resource management experience, including delivering outcomes in complex environments.
2. Highly developed written communication skills, including preparing high level documents including cabinet submissions, policy papers,
executive briefs and ministerial correspondence.
1. Sound knowledge of contemporary policy, economic and industry development frameworks relevant to primary industries and
sustainable production.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification and/or significant experience in agricultural, agribusiness, economics, public policy, or a related discipline.
