Adelaide

More than just a job. Build a career at Lumen.

Join one of the few genuine employee-owned engineering consultancies driving the renewable energy transition, in a role that lives in the field. If you've worked on lines or in substations and you'd rather be out on a transmission easement in regional SA than stuck in a depot, read on. This is a permanent field role for someone who knows HV assets and wants to make a career of inspecting and testing them.

About Us

Lumen is an industry leader in the power utility and renewable energy space. We are a 100% employee-owned, carbon positive company with offices across Australia and New Zealand. Stepping into our team of around 50 dedicated specialists, you will work with power utilities, engineering contractors, and renewable energy developers to maintain and upgrade existing infrastructure and design new connections to the electricity grid.

Work-life balance is important to us, and we mean it when we say we’re flexible.

The Opportunity

Our Electrical and Asset Management team in Adelaide is growing and we need an experienced Field Testing Technician / Inspector on the crew. You'll join our existing field team, learn our clients' assets and test programmes, and quickly become someone the team relies on.

This is a hands-on field role, not an engineering role and not a stepping stone to a desk. You will spend most of your time on the road across SA and occasionally interstate, with most weeknights away from home. Travel is fully supported with allowances and we handle all accommodation.

What you'll be doing

- Condition assessment of overhead lines, substations and associated HV assets through physical inspection,

testing and analysis
- Recording and analysing inspection and test data to meet client specifications
- Helping schedule and deliver routine inspection and maintenance programmes on time and on budget
- Daily engagement with landowners, clients and site crews
- Regular travel to sites across SA and interstate
- Working on HV infrastructure and renewable energy projects that matter to the energy transition

Full training on our equipment, systems and client requirements is provided.

About you

You've already spent time in the field on lines or substations and you know your way around HV assets. You're practical, reliable and comfortable working on your own for stretches, and you can hold a sensible conversation with a landowner or a client's site manager.

- Experience: At least a couple of years working on overhead lines or substations, in any capacity. Experience in condition assessment, inspection or testing of electrical assets is a real advantage.
- Background: Electrical, lines, substation, NDT, corrosion or civil technical work.
- Skills: Confident with electronic test equipment, accurate with data, valuable at solving problems on site, and clear in writing and in person.
- Requirements: A full,

current Australian driver's licence and a willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical check.
- Availability: Genuine willingness to travel for site work and spend nights away from home.

Why Join Lumen? Here at Lumen, our people are our most important asset. We believe in investing in your talent, enabling you to achieve your full potential. Over time, committed team members may have the opportunity to deepen their ties with the company through shareholding options.

Benefits include:

- Competitive Remuneration: Excellent hourly rate set to match your skills and experience, with opportunities for overtime, performance incentives and travel allowances.
- Health & Wellbeing: A free comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for you and your family, plus an annual wellbeing allowance and free flu vaccinations.
- Company Culture: An outstanding social environment, including exclusive company staff day events in New Zealand.
- Sustainability Perks: Access to flexible working arrangements and novated lease arrangements to purchase an EV.
- Growth: Ongoing training and the chance to broaden your skills across inspection, testing and asset management.
- Adelaide base: An affordable, underrated city close to Barossa, McLaren Vale, and Fleurieu Peninsula, with a tight-knit engineering community and lower cost of living than Sydney or Melbourne.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and identities. If you don't tick every box, apply anyway. The right attitude and work ethic matter more than a perfect CV. We are committed to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve across Australia.
