The opportunity
ProPharma is looking for a Financial Controller to provide financial oversight across our operations in Asia Pacific.
Based in Melbourne, you will have a strong initial focus on Australia, with responsibility for additional APAC markets shaped by business requirements and your existing regional experience. The final country portfolio may include markets such as the Philippines, Japan, China and India.
This is an oversight and control role rather than a primarily transactional accounting position.
Much of the underlying activity is already supported by local teams and external providers. Your role will be to make sure those activities come together correctly: reviewing financial outputs, challenging discrepancies, coordinating providers and stakeholders, maintaining control over reporting, and ensuring that the numbers can be clearly understood and explained.
You will report to the Vice President, Finance in the UK and work with colleagues and partners already supporting the relevant APAC markets, providing an established structure for the handover into the role.
Why this role
- Regional ownership: Take responsibility for financial control across Australia and a portfolio of additional APAC markets.
- International exposure: Work directly with Finance leadership in the UK while coordinating activity across multiple Asia-Pacific markets.
- Established support structure: Work with existing local teams and specialist external providers rather than building regional processes from scratch.
- Visible financial responsibility: Own the quality of financial outputs, understand what is driving the numbers, and make sure stakeholders have reliable information for decision-making.
- Broad finance exposure: Work across financial reporting, month-end close, statutory requirements, audit, payroll oversight, treasury and external-provider management.
- Hybrid Melbourne base: Work from our Melbourne office as part of an international Finance organisation.
What you will do
- Own financial control for your assigned APAC entities, ensuring financial information is complete, accurate and appropriately supported.
- Oversee the monthly close and reporting cycle, reviewing financial results, balance-sheet positions and supporting reconciliations, and investigating issues or unexpected movements.
- Analyse financial performance and prepare meaningful reporting, including variance analysis against prior periods, budgets and forecasts,
with a clear understanding of the drivers behind the numbers.
- Manage and coordinate external accounting, payroll, tax and statutory providers, reviewing their outputs, resolving discrepancies and ensuring agreed deliverables and deadlines are met.
- Maintain oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and invoicing activity, reviewing and approving outputs where appropriate rather than performing routine transaction processing.
- Monitor banking and cash positions, contribute to cash-flow forecasting, and identify funding requirements for the entities within your remit.
- Coordinate local statutory and compliance requirements, working with external specialists on tax filings, statutory accounts, business registrations and other required declarations.
- Lead and coordinate year-end financial audit activities for the entities within your responsibility.
- Partner with Finance colleagues and business stakeholders across APAC and the UK, acting as a knowledgeable point of contact for the financial position of your markets.
- Identify issues, strengthen financial controls and coordinate ad hoc finance projects as the regional business and entity structure evolve.
What we are looking for
This role will suit an experienced finance professional who already understands what effective financial control looks like in practice. You do not necessarily need to hold the title of Financial Controller today, but you should already have meaningful exposure to Controller-level responsibilities.
You may currently be a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or Senior Accountant who has worked closely with a Controller and already takes responsibility for significant elements of financial reporting, close, audit, statutory compliance and financial review.
You should be comfortable getting into the detail when required. We are looking for someone who can review a set of numbers and understand what they represent, identify when something does not look right, ask the right questions, and translate financial information into clear reporting.
Required
- A recognised professional accounting qualification, such as CA ANZ, CPA Australia or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Previous hands-on exposure to Controller-level responsibilities, whether in a Controller role or while working closely with a Controller.
- Strong practical knowledge of financial accounting, month-end close, balance-sheet control and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including IFRS and relevant local accounting requirements.
- Experience reviewing financial results, investigating variances and explaining the underlying drivers.
- Experience working with external accounting, payroll, audit, tax or other professional service providers.
- Experience supporting statutory reporting, audit and financial compliance requirements.
- Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, deadlines and workstreams across different locations.
- Professional English communication skills suitable for regular collaboration with APAC colleagues and UK-based Finance leadership.
Preferred
- Experience working across more than one APAC jurisdiction.
- Previous responsibility for Australian entities together with exposure to markets such as the Philippines, Japan, China or India.
- Experience working in an international or multinational organisation.
- Experience with Workday or comparable enterprise business systems.
- Experience within pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, healthcare or another regulated industry.

The role reports to the Vice President, Finance in the UK and works closely with Finance colleagues, operational stakeholders and external providers across APAC.
