About the Roles

Australian Fishing Enterprises Pty Ltd (AFE) is seeking suitably qualified and experienced personnel to join its established commercial fishing operations based in Port Lincoln, South Australia.

AFE is recruiting for the following full-time positions:

- Ship’s Master
- Ship’s Engineer (Fishing Industry)
- Ship’s Officer
- Master Fisher
- Deck Hand
- Fishing Hand
- Seafood Process Worker

Key Responsibilities

Ship’s Master

Manage, control and navigate commercial fishing vessels and oversee safe and efficient vessel operations, including navigation, crew activities and compliance with applicable maritime safety requirements.

Ship’s Engineer (Fishing Industry)

Control and manage the operation and maintenance of fishing vessel plant and equipment, including propulsion systems, main and auxiliary engines and associated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and other engineering systems. Diagnose faults, undertake or coordinate maintenance and repairs, and maintain engineering and operational records.

Ship’s Officer

Assist with the safe operation and navigation of commercial fishing vessels. Supervise and coordinate the activities of deck crew and undertake navigational, operational, safety and vessel duties as required.

Master Fisher

Control and coordinate fishing operations, including determining fishing activities having regard to target species, fishing grounds, seasons and vessel capabilities. Direct crew engaged in catching and handling fish and support the protected and efficient operation of the fishing vessel.

Deck Hand

Undertake deck operations, including handling ropes and wires, mooring and unmooring, lookout duties, operation and maintenance of deck equipment, cargo-related duties, vessel maintenance and other duties associated with commercial fishing operations.

Fishing Hand

Prepare, set and retrieve fishing gear, including lines, nets, pots and associated equipment. Handle and stow catch,



maintain fishing and deck equipment and undertake other duties associated with commercial fishing operations.

Seafood Process Worker

Process seafood products, including sorting, cleaning, dressing, filleting, grading, packing and storing seafood, while complying with applicable food safety, workplace health and safety and quality requirements.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Applicants must have relevant qualifications, skills and practical experience appropriate to the position for which they are applying.

Applicants for Ship’s Master, Ship’s Engineer (Fishing Industry), Ship’s Officer and Master Fisher positions must hold any appropriate maritime certification, Certificate of Competency, registration or licence required for the vessel and duties to be performed.

Applicants must provide evidence of relevant employment experience and, where applicable, qualifications, licences, certifications and sea service.

Employment type: Full-time

Location: Port Lincoln, South Australia

Salary

$71,500 to $120,000+ per annum, depending on the position, qualifications, skills and relevant experience, plus superannuation.
