Independent Tree Services (ITS) is a well-established and highly respected arboriculture company servicing councils, government, commercial clients and private customers throughout South East Queensland.

Established in 2002, ITS has built a strong reputation for quality workmanship, safety, reliability and delivering complex tree-management and vegetation-maintenance projects.

We operate a substantial fleet of specialised Arboricultural equipment and have a long-standing, experienced workforce. Our business continues to grow, and we are now looking for an experienced General Manager to help take the company to its next stage.

The Opportunity

This is a senior leadership position for an experienced manager who can take responsibility for the day-to-day operation and performance of the business, allowing the Managing Director to step back from the daily operational workload and focus more heavily on strategic growth, major contracts, assets and the future direction of the company.

You will have significant autonomy and responsibility across:

- Operations and production
- Staff and workforce management
- Fleet and equipment utilisation
- Financial performance
- Client and contract management
- Health & safety
- Quality and compliance
- Scheduling and resource allocation
- Business systems and processes
- Continuous improvement
- Recruitment and staff development

This is not simply an office-based management position. We are looking for someone who understands how to run a substantial operational business, lead people and make decisions.

About You

You may come from arboriculture, civil construction, utilities, vegetation management, transport, earthmoving, facilities management or another comparable operational industry.

Most importantly, you will have a proven ability to manage people, equipment, budgets, customers and competing priorities.

Experience with arboriculture or vegetation management would be highly regarded but is not essential for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

- Oversee daily operations across multiple crews and projects
- Ensure jobs are properly resourced and completed efficiently
- Improve productivity and utilisation of labour and equipment
- Manage scheduling and operational priorities
- Ensure service levels and contract requirements are consistently met

People & Leadership

- Lead and manage supervisors, team leaders, arborists, operators and administration staff
- Assist with recruitment and staff retention
- Set clear expectations and performance standards
- Manage performance issues when required
- Develop a strong culture of accountability, teamwork and professionalism

Financial & Commercial Management

- Monitor revenue, gross margins and job profitability
- Review operational costs and identify areas for improvement
- Monitor labour, plant, fuel and subcontractor costs
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting
- Ensure quoting and operational decisions are commercially sound

Fleet & Equipment

- Oversee the utilisation, maintenance and replacement of the company's significant plant and equipment fleet
- Work with the workshop and mechanics to minimise downtime
- Ensure equipment is appropriately allocated to jobs
- Identify opportunities to improve fleet productivity

Clients & Contracts

- Maintain strong relationships with councils,



government bodies and commercial clients
- Ensure contractual obligations are being met
- Assist with tendering and major contract negotiations
- Deal with escalated customer issues professionally

WHS & Compliance

- Work closely with the WHS Compliance Manager
- Maintain a strong safety culture
- Ensure systems, procedures and documentation are followed
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions where required
