Maker Consulting Services

Newcastle

Build your career with an organisation that is invested in your success.

Maker Consulting Services is looking for a motivated Civil Engineering Undergraduate or Graduate to join our growing Newcastle team. Whether you're currently studying and looking to gain meaningful industry experience alongside university; or completing your degree and ready to begin your graduate career, this role offers the opportunity to develop your technical skills while contributing to real projects from day one.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers on land development, infrastructure, roads and stormwater projects across Newcastle, the Hunter and broader NSW, gaining practical experience that complements your university studies and builds the foundation for your professional career.

At Maker, we believe in providing a flexible work lifestyle. This has inspired us to change the way we work, leaving behind the traditional 5-day work week. Instead, Maker has adopted a 4-day work week, providing you with a day off during the week and giving you the time to catch up on life and do more of what you love!

For undergraduate candidates, we offer flexibility around university timetables and exam periods, allowing you to gain consistent industry experience while completing your degree.

Why join Maker

Maker is a fast-growing, multi-disciplinary consultancy with more than 65 employees across 4 offices in NSW and Victoria. In addition to Civil Engineering, we specialise in Town Planning, Surveying, and Project Management which provides you with the opportunity to collaborate across a wide range of exciting projects.

You’ll enjoy

- Hands-on mentoring from experienced civil engineers, including direct exposure to senior members of our Newcastle team.
- Real project involvement from the outset - not just observation or administrative tasks.

- Experience across land development, roads, stormwater, infrastructure and multidisciplinary projects.
- Opportunities to develop your skills in industry-standard civil design and modelling software.
- A supportive culture where questions are encouraged and knowledge is shared.
- The opportunity to grow from undergraduate engineer through to graduate and increasingly independent project responsibilities.
- A 4-day working week, giving you more time to enjoy life outside work
- Modern offices and regular team social events

About the Role Located in our Newcastle office and working closely with our Newcastle Principal Civil Engineer, you will be exposed to a variety of projects that will introduce you to a broad range of civil engineering disciplines and progressively build your technical and professional capability.

Your responsibilities will include

- Assisting with the design and documentation of civil infrastructure and land development projects, including roads, earthworks, stormwater drainage and utility infrastructure.
- Developing practical experience using industry-standard civil design and modelling software.
- Assisting with engineering calculations, technical assessments and preparation of reports.
- Working with engineers, surveyors, planners and project managers to understand how projects progress from concept through to construction.
- Participating in site inspections,

project meetings and coordination activities where appropriate.

You'll be encouraged to ask questions, learn from experienced professionals and progressively take on greater responsibility as your confidence grows. For undergraduate candidates, our aim is to provide meaningful, ongoing employment throughout your studies, with flexible part-time arrangements to suit university commitments and the opportunity to transition into a graduate position as you complete your degree.

About You

We're looking for someone curious, motivated and excited to build a career in Civil Engineering.

We're looking for

- Someone currently studying a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or who has recently graduated from a relevant engineering degree.
- A genuine interest in civil engineering and a willingness to learn.
- An interest in design, problem-solving and seeing projects progress from concept through to construction.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with an interest in developing your technical writing capability.
- Good time management, organisation and prioritisation skills.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Whether you're part-way through your degree and looking to build industry experience alongside your studies, or approaching graduation and ready to begin your skilled career, we'd like to hear from you. Ready to Build Your Career?

If you're looking to gain meaningful civil engineering experience while completing your degree, or you're ready to take the first step in your graduate career, we'd love to hear from you.
