Working with banks, other Government agencies and international partners, we back Australia’s exporters, supply chain businesses and industries, contributing to a more stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific while advancing Australia’s trade, investment and economic security objectives.

YOUR NEW ROLE The Head of Sustainability and Technical Risk (STR) leads Export Finance Australa’s (EFA) sustainability agenda and oversees technical, environmental and social risk across transactions.

Strategy and enterprise leadership

- Set STR’s direction and priorities, aligned with EFA’s strategy and risk appetite.
- Advise executives, committees and the Board on sustainability and technical risk.
- Contribute to enterprise strategy and decision-making.

Transaction and risk oversight

- Oversee timely, robust technical, environmental and social risk assessments.
- Ensure advice and mitigations align with EFA’s policies, risk appetite and applicable standards.
- Maintain assessment quality, oversee external advisers and escalate material and emerging risks.

Sustainability and ESG

- Lead EFA’s sustainability, ESG and climate-related agenda, embedding it into strategy and decisions.
- Maintain relevant policies, frameworks, methodologies and disclosures.
- Monitor regulatory and industry developments and advise on their impact.

Functional leadership

- Lead STR’s planning, resources, performance and continuous improvement.
- Partner with Credit, Risk and business teams to support transactions and manage risk.
- Build trusted internal,



government and external relationships, providing practical and risk-based advice.
- Build a high-performing, collaborative and accountable team.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

- 15+ years experience within sustainability, technical and environment risk
- Relevant tertiary qualifications; postgraduate, degree
- Professional qualifications are desirable.
- Senior leadership experience in sustainability, technical risk, environmental and social risk, or a related field.
- Experience assessing complex transactions and advising senior executives, committees and Boards.
- Experience operating in a regulated, government or complex financial environment.

Skills

- Strong knowledge of technical, environmental and social risk assessment.
- Sound understanding of sustainability, ESG, climate and disclosure frameworks.
- Ability to apply risk policies and standards to complex transactions.
- Understanding of credit, commercial and operational considerations.
- Ability to use data and technology to improve analysis, reporting and processes.
- Ability to interpret regulatory and industry developments and oversee specialist external advisers.
